Someone I know missed an assignment worth 30%?

Hey :)

Someone I know missed an assignment worth 30%. Therefore, he got 0. There's still 70% worth of tests/exams left, yet he doubts he'll receive over 65% in each of them (that's a C, dead-on, in Canada). In your opinion, do you think he's screwed for the rest of the course? Should he just drop it? I told him that I honestly have no clue as to what he should do... which is why I'm asking on here.

This is in university, btw.

Thanks very much :)

Update:

@-.-, thank you for the most useless answer ever.

Update 2:

@Fuhrie - Lol no, actually its not me. I'm a girl. And exact information? Haha I just wrote down what he told me. I personally think he can still pass... right? Should I tell him to keep trying =/?

Update 3:

@Daniel - Haha! I doubt sucking up would help, but who knows, maybe you're right. :)

@-,- - Take any number grade a Canadian has and add 10 - an 85 here is a A, down south a B. We don't give out grades for free.

The bigger problem is here is that he'd have to get near perfect in everything from now on. I never give perfect marks in my class, and you have to be pretty damn exceptional to get a 90 (that's usually top 2-3 students in a class of 120.) So, with a 90% in everything else, he's still only getting a 63 overall with a zero in a major piece. A 70 (B-) in everything, still a fail.

    Drop the course.

I doubt he's screwed, he just needs to show ambition to the teacher and the teacher will bend the rules, most always do. But from now on he must show his BEST behavior.

It's also not a bad idea for him to talk to the teacher. Making friends with my university professors made it 10x easier and they favored me.

Have him ask the teacher if he can retake the test, and make sure he brings an apple or something and admit he fouled up for missing. The teacher will feel bad and laugh at his sense of humility.

Well he kinda is in a little bit of trouble.....if you think about it if he gets 100% on everything else from here on out, the best he can get is a 70 in the class. He needs to talk to his teacher and see what can be done.
