Computer crash, is it worth having it looked at?

Ok I clicked on a friends facebook link to a story and my computer just went nuts and shut down. now it wont even boot up it just says "Hard Disk Error" Is this something that is possible to get fixed or would I be wasting my money to get it looked at.

I would like to keep the computer as it is a nice one and has info on it I want and didnt back up, but I dont want to throw money in the trash either. With this kind of problem is it something that can be fixed or would i be better just buying a new one?

It sounds like your hard drive went bad. There is a good chance that your data is still there. Just follow the "Hard Drive Recovery Guide for Non-Geeks." After you get your data back, try to reinstall Windows. If Windows wont install it most likely means you need a new hard drive.

my old computer had 2 hardrives with an athlon xp cpu motherboard. The same thing happend to me and I ran dos bootable recovery software and the first partitions drive c became innacessible on both drives.. Best thing is remove hardrive and use another computer to copy all your important files over from your old harddrive. There is a usb to sata (flat red cable) or pata(ATA used on older hardrives.) you can buy and you just match your connecors to the adapter.powered by a power adapter to your old hardrive. Bad mb and cpu probably the cause. If its a virus , You may need more than a simple virus scan, but im sure you could not get another computer infected by just copying or backing up data in this case.

Every file present in your registry contains a command or direction for every program and application on your computer. Registry files are the files that give your computer the instructions for what to do next. If these registry files get corrupt or misplaced, your computer fails to understand what to do. In these instances, your computer loses control, eventually leading to a crash. At this stage the priority is to fix these registry files. In such situations it is suggested that you do not try to fix the registry yourself. Immediately find registry cleaner software and scan your computer to locate any errors. This software will identify all the missing entries or errors, restoring them right away. In many cases, your computer will be back to normal. It is recommended that you run this software once a month for best results. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://clean-up-registry-faster-pc.com/

  • ur hard drive is gone or in otherwords everything u had on there that wasn't backed up is now gone. if the laptop was over a year old i recommend getting a new one and scrapping this one, but if its new u can get a new hard drive for alot of money. wouldn't hurt to take it in though.

Hard disk error could be several things. The most common is a hard drive failure (replace the hard drive and operating system).

check the cable connections to the hard disk

If they are OK then you need to buy a new hard disk
