Which Appetizers Would YOU Prefer?

My fiance and I have chosen a reception location for our wedding that has an in-house caterer. The food is delicious, and we have decided to spring for the more expensive (but lovely) sit-down dinner. We have decided on a one-plate option, which will be a double entree of chicken and steak, with mashed red potatoes and steamed asparagus. It is paired with bread and a salad. Tea and lemonade to drink, plus an open bar of beer and wine.

However, we have to pick three appetizers, and quite frankly, we aren't sure which to go with. These are the ones that the chef recommended, but I wanted input from the community at large:

1. Bruschetta

2. Pork Satay

3. Scallop en Croute

4. Quail en Croute

5. Cornmeal Crusted Quail

6. Cauliflower Bruschetta

7. Spanikopitas

8. Shrimp Toast with Ponzu Sauce

9. Belgian Endive stuffed with Herbed Goat Cheese

10. Fried Green Tomatoes with Craw-fish Mayo

If you were guests at my wedding, which would you prefer to have served to you?

Wow I cant believe how negative people are on these foods! None of these are outrageous or totally foreign.

As someone else mentioned, it is always disappointing when the appetizer is more like an entree. I prefer them to be bite-sized. So if the bruschetta is the size of your palm (usually they are), I would give it a miss. Besides, bruschetta is so common. I would go with something that people dont usually have the chance to eat. The ones that look best to me are: the scallop, cornmeal crusted quail, spanikopitas, shrimp toast, and the endive.

Remember, your main meal has meat, potatoes, and salad so you are definitely pleasing the crowd there! So pick something a little unexpected for the appetizers.

    I personally would like:

    2. Pork Satay

    4. Quail en Croute or 5. Cornmeal Crusted Quail. (Pick one)

Quail is an interesting novelty that seems very "gourmet" without being weird enough to turn people off.

The "Belgian Endive stuffed with Herbed Goat Cheese" would be an interesting vegetarian option that also seem kind of "classy" and unusual. Goat cheese is wonderful, and endives are very "in" this year.

I really hate Cauliflower and shrimp. Bruschetta quality varies wildly depending on where you get it...it can be pretty gross. I don't like the "all vegetarian" idea. You make the handful of vegetarians happy at the expense of everyone else.

    I would definitely eat #3 and #8.

#4 and #5 - I've never tried quail but I would think it is pretty much like chicken so I would give it a try.

Other than that, I wouldn't eat anything else on that list. I will say that #2 sounded interesting (I have no issue with pork) until I looked it up & learned it has a peanut sauce & I'm allergic to peanuts. If it could be done with the sauce on the side, I'd try it.

Even though I don't like it, I know lots of people LOVE bruschetta so I would encourage you to have that as one of your options.

These are so much fun, but it's all personal taste. I love spanikopita; also the belgian endive and the fried tomatoes sound awesome. You can get bruschetta at Walmart and, while I'm sure their's is better, it's kind of heavy and bready for an appetizer. Also, with chicken and steak as entrees, I'd steer clear of poultry.

    But that's just me!

I am not too embarrassed to admit that I have yet to find a food that I do not like. So, all of the ten appetizers you mention here would all be fine by me. But, for me, as a guest, I would want something that I can pop in my mouth in just ONE BITE.

Have you ever been to a party where the appetizer is too big to eat in one bite? But, at the same time, if you try to bite it in half, it ends up self destructing and falling all over the place while ending up in pieces in your napkin? I hate when that happens. Therefore, I would pick something that is very easy to eat in one bite.

I am sure at least two out of three of your choices will appeal to everyone. Pick YOUR three favorite one bite appetizers. I would pick #3 or #8 for the seafood, #9, and #5.

The only thing there that I recognized was Bruschetta. I'd choose that.

I googled Pork satay and it just looks like pork kabobs...so I'd choose that too. :)

I don't like scallops. #4 and 5 ????? Is that the Quail bird? Never tried it.

I guess I'd choose the shrimp too..I don't like fried tomatoes and I don't know what the other stuff is. : /

Steer clear of anything too similar to the flavors of your main dishes. variety is the spice of life after all.

I would be quite happy with the Spanikopitas, Belgian Endive, and I know you have poultry on your main dish but i am really really curious about both the Quail dishes.

It might be nice to include one of the seafood options. I am not crazy about seafood but i know some people love it.

I like when wedding food is something out of the norm that i might not get to try otherwise
