My 6 year old Windows XP computer will not work with any browser but IE. Why?

The hard drive was replaced about 18 months ago, but I am still having problems. Google Chrome and Firefox crash my computer when I try to run them.

Update:

Running XP SP3, run AVG, CCleaner & every night. I also cannot run any IE above 6...

Update 2:

Running XP SP3. AVG, CCleaner & Malwarebytes are run daily.

This computer is owned by someone on disability, and they cannot save up to just buy a new computer.

Make sure you're running XP service pack 3.

Also, XP is ancient. It would be worth your time to save up for a new computer.

DO you have latest service pack installed (SP3)? Also make sure you download the 32-bit versions of chrome or firefox, and install system updates.

Sounds like you have a virus or malware the programs you have run won't fix that. Download and install and remove all these 3 programs find

From reading your POST--I'd say you need a Pentium 4 Processor and 1-GB of 400-MHz RAM/

well if you got you hard drive replaced that that might be why because when they replace it they can make it so it only works on somethings not everything and then sense it was replaced and its a new one it doesn't know any other of the files that you had on the other hard drive.. so i would recommend selling your computer and getting a windows computer.
