Do you think the Kumbaya seating for the State of the Union is intended to quell outbursts?

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/01/24/kumba...

I read the above article from Fox News about the alternating D. R. seating in congress at the State of the Union, but I think it kinda misses the mark. Don't you think it more likely an attempt to prevent outbursts, (like the one last year where a Republican Rep. from S.C. I think it was, shouted out "Liar" in the middle of the procedings)? Isn't it harder to cat call when you've got two people who fundamentally disagree with your worldview at either shoulder?

Update:

Rockaday,

If that's the case, maybe it's a formula for a riot! :) not very prodective maybe, but that would make for some must see TV viewing at least.

Update 2:

productive

Update 3:

Sthrnly...

Could be. Whatever the reason it HAS to be politically motivated in some way...

Update 4:

Evilish...

Unity in regards to what? I might buy that if it was decided by the members themselves in the face of some unspeakable national tragedy or something, but (call me cynical) I just don't believe that to be the case.

Maybe easier to cat call when you've got someone to agitate right at hand.

The outburst from Joe Wilson was out of line, even though he was pointing out a blatant lie by the president. Whether the seating arrangement is for that purpose, or will work for that matter, remains to be seen. My opinion of it is that it is just a dog and pony show, for us to think there is actually bi and cross party legislation going on in Congress, when in truth, we didn't vote them in there to get along.

Congress is like loserpalooza on any given day.

It's public relations. It's branding. It's messaging. A room that looks integrated is better than a room that looks divided.

It's unrealistic to expect a nation to work together, when the officials sit across from each other like they have cooties.

    Consider it anti-cooties medicine.

I don't think it will prevent a "You Lie" comment - remember the Representative who pulled that last year got reprimanded.

It's intended to show bipartisanship. Key word is show.

Actually I think it was created so the Liberals won't look like such a smaller group, after that astounding Nov. 2, 2010 election.

No, but the seats are electrified so everyone stands up at the same time (on cue) during the "Pep-Rally".

(their shoes are probably nailed to the floor as well)

If the SCOTUS are present they will voice their opinion and the two democrats he just appointed will be absent!
