A bill has been introduced (HB208) in the KY house to require all adult recipients of public assistance of any kind (medical, housing, financial, etc.) to undergo drug screening.

It was introduced the 7th... not been voted on yet.

No. HB 208 was introduced in 2011. If you look up Kentucky law, specifically KRS 200.205, you will see that the guidelines for those receiving assistance has not been amended since 1998. Additionally, there is no reference to drug testing in the language of the law in that section.

The only mention of substance abuse is in subsection .2005. That section states that those who have been convicted of a drug offense are still eligible if they are in a treatment program.

If they did, that is a good idea. I don't care if people want to do drugs, that is their own problem...but if they want to use taxpayer money to buy the drugs, then I do have a problem with that.

I doubt it. I'm not sure that's even legal.

Hey, I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just saying it might be illegal. There are all kinds of rights implicated by this, especially seeing that welfare is an entitlement once it's received. It's not my fault, it's just the law.
