What is the purpose of the State of Union address?

Article 2, Section 3 of the United States Constitution: "He (the President) shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient."

Woodrow Wilson was the first President to deliver the State of the Union as an actual speech - before him Presidents just sent a document.

It's required by the Constitution.

Article II Section 3

To SPEND SPEND AND SPEND SOME MORE He suggested a number of very good ideas but everything he mentioned is to SPEND, SPEND AND SPEND SOME MORE I certainly hope that the Majority can get the budget down

I think the President likes to hear himself talk and I do not think he has good people around him

He want to build roads, fix our infrastructure,rails etc stating that we should be as good or better than other

countries.

Lets collect the loans with interest that was given to France,Korea, Germany etc and none has been repaid

We have rebuilt other countries infrastructures and let ours fall to the way side Our initiative has built their infrastrucure

Stop spending, Limit Government Envolment, get ride of the books of laws that get bigger and thicker every year so that no one can read or understand

All of Pres. Obama's suggestions were to Spend More Money He certainly knows how to spend because he & his family have more advisors secretaries, cleaning security and they have taken more family trips than any other president His children & wife have certainly had some wonderful vacations I realize that he has to attend some of these but his entire family does not need to go along with teachers, hair dressers, dress designers He spends like there is no tomorrow

The State of the Union was not originally a speech, it was in written form.

Currently it is simply a way to stoke those the President wants to stroke. While making promises to the people that often are often not reasonable or likely.

Doesn't the name say it all? It is an annual report from the president on how the country is doing. It also tells of what direction he wants the country to go.
