My laptop is getting no sound?
So today, my laptop's sound was a little off. Earlier it sounded like it was coming only from one side and then started to make quick crackling noises until it just went silent. When I tried to adjust the volume, the little icon often froze and just didn't work. I restarted a couple times but when I restart it now says something to the effect of "SoundMAX could not be loaded" and when I try to go to the sound section of my control panel there is no default audio device and I can not set one.
I've tried downloading SoundMAX but I believe it says that I already have it installed, but it's nowhere to be found. I can not adjust sound or anything like that.
Thoughts?

Look in device manager..

Open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Double-click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
See if there's a warning triangle next to your sound driver. If that's the case, try rolling back/updating the driver (right click). If that fails or you don't have one to roll back - look on the manufacturer's site for the correct, updated, drivers for your OS/sound card.
