There's a snail in my tank?!?

I didn't buy him :)

Hes super tiny...I'm pretty sure its a snail at least.

how in the world did he get there?

Should I get rid of him? Is there anyway of knowing if he'll overpopulate my tank?

He's kinda cute :) and I was thinking of getting some sort of algae eater/bottom dweller anyways so yeah, is he a threat to my fish (2 female mollies)? anything special I need to do if I keep him?

Update:

yeah, about a month ago I got a live plant

Update 2:

Sabby- he's smaller than an m&m, my guess is that he's young. I can't tell anything about his shell, its too small. but what should I be looking out for?

Awesome! In the aquarium world we call them hitch-hikers. Anyway he won't overpopulate your tank and he won't harm any of your fish. In fact, he'll graze the tank and eat your unwanted algae all day. And no, nothing special you need to do, he will take care of himself. Snails are very good to have in your fish tank.

The snail... is it a snail that you would get from a pet store, like the really big ones, just a mini version of it? Is it's shell cone shaped or more circular? The ones that you don't buy from a pet store are kind of pests, because they can over-populate quickly. There doesn't need to be a male and a female, they just populate on their own, but i agree, they are cute! >^^<

And like everyone said, no, it won't hurt you're other fish. They're perfectly harmless. >^^<

you get snails from live plants and stuff like that. snails are a-sexual meaning they don't need two to have babies. you can keep him just watch out cause it may very well turn into 20 if that happens you can but some stuff at the pet store that kills just snails and you put it in your tank. or you can just fish them out as they become a problem

I think I would dispose of it, some snails will overpopulate a tank while you are eating breakfast. Not all kinds do but once I had two huge tanks get infested with snails and had real trouble eradicating them!

Keep him, he will keep the walls of your tank clean. No threat to your current fish. If he is tiny you wont need to feed him. If he was bigger and in a really small tank you might need to feed him algae food.

Alex was probably right about it being in the fish bag when you got them.

Do you have real plants in your tank .. it could have been introduced in one of them.

Keep it .. snails are great algae eaters .. no threat to the fish .. nothing special to do.

If u have live plants in the tank then that's how it got there. U might have more they get big pretty fast. I think u should keep him their cool especially when they crawl on the glass. They also help with algae
