How do I fix my laptop? *read details*?

My laptop is being really stupid.

Just a few days ago it was working perfectly.

And now all of the sudden it won't let me get onto the internet cos appearently I have to "Plug a cable into the network adapter 'Local area Connection'"

I am not good with computers, so i don't even know what that means.

Can someone please explain how to make my laptop work again? Explain well, cos I am not computer savy what so ever

I'm on my desktop computer right now, and nothings wrong with it. It's just my laptop.

Update:

By the way,

I have a HP laptop, and internet connection with comcast.

Right click the network button on the notification area and hit diagnose and repair. Use either the following options when prompted "Obtain new IP Address" and/or Reset network connection.

You can unplug your router from the power for a couple seconds and then plug it back in. Then restart you laptop and attempt to reconnect to the internet.

There should be a button/slider on the side of your computer, click it and it should go back to normal.

Make sure the Wi-Fi antenna is ON. If it is, and it is still doing this, hook up an WIRED connection to your comp.
