Where can I recycle my portable DVD player?

I have a portable DVD player that no longer works. I want to get rid of it, but I don't think I should toss it in the trash. Wouldn't the battery leak weird stuff out? Anyway, I was wondering where I could take it. Is there a store, like Best Buy or Radio Shack, where I could take it and then let them properly dispose of it?

Many thanks to all in advance.

There is more than the battery to worry about, there is a number of other chemicals, such as the mercury in the CCFL tube.

Best Buy, at least, I think have a recycling program you can take it to.

Take it with you to the mall and leave it on a bench. It will vanish in seconds.
