How to Play DVD's on new DVD machine.?

I've got a new Panasonic DVD player and new Samsung TV. Both professionally installed. I can't play DVD's. I'm not using the remotes correctly. Please explain what I need to do to play a DVD.

One answer is: put a DVD in the player, then on the TV, cycle through all of the inputs until you find the DVD menu.

That won't be enough, though, if there's a receiver in the path between the DVD and the TV. In that case, one of the TV's inputs is connected to the receiver output, and you just leave the TV set that way. You select the DVD as the source by pushing the right button on the receiver remote.

Another answer is to call the installer you paid money to and get them to come back and show you what they did. (And maybe fix it.)
