Will it be more economical than a natural gas furnace without an air exchanger?

Normally in the Wisconsin area in the US, we only use propane in areas where there is no natural gas main to tap into. I think the market for propane here is a little more expensive per unit of heat (therm) because you have to truck it, it requires a separate tank on each property, etc. There may be different dynamics up there, so I agree with the post that says call both providers and ask about cost per therm.
Air exchangers are usually installed in new construction because the methods for building and materials used have evolved to the point where you can't count on enough leakage of air in and out of the house to properly move the moisture and CO2 out of the system in sufficient quantities. A certain amount of fresh air needs to come into the system over time, and the air exchanger provides for that in a measured and reliable way.

Setting aside the question of the cost of fuels, the efficiency rating of the furnace is the key. Generally, high efficiency forced air units with an air return system are better. They provide a more even heat distribution and use air already warmed so they don't have to warm outside temperature air.

You will have to check with your local suppliers. How much does natural gas versus propane gas cost per THERM! Give them a call! Good Luck!

If you are asking this question, then you are not prepared to buy real estate.
You should maybe live under a bridge or something.
