Hypothetical question about the second coming.?

HYPOTHETICALLY, if it where to happen, would it be possible that Jesus has already returned, but has been labelled crazy and locked away? And why do you think what you think?

This isn't an attack on Christians or Atheists, by the way, I'm just genuinely curious about what people think. Remember, I'm not asking about the existence of Jesus, just "what if he were real and he came back, then this happened."

Update:

I haven't locked anyone up, don't worry!

He has already returned, and the people in the first century who were expecting it did see it, and there was no question who He was. "Coming on clouds" was a figure of speech known to the Jews that meant God was coming to judge a nation. When it happened in AD70, this was the fulfillment of Jesus' warning for them to flee the city when they saw the armies surrounding it, which led to the abomination of desolation and destruction of their Temple.

The events surrounding the Roman Jewish War (66-70AD) are spoken of by the Jewish historian Josephus, who recorded such things as famine, millions killed, earthquakes, a sword and chariots seen in the sky, the heavy doors of the Temple opened miraculously in the middle of the night making it appear as noon, etc. Prior to this was the Tribulation, as Nero persecuted the Christians for 3 1/2 years.

Many people see these events as a judgment of God, but fail to place the 2nd Coming along with it, even though they are prophetically linked together. The purpose of the 2nd Coming was to abolish the Old Covenant (old heavens and earth) and establish the New Covenant (new heavens and earth) forever.

Because this transitional event is spoken of with astronomical verbiage (sun, moon, stars falling, etc.) many think this is a future destruction of our planet. But this literary style was used in the Old Testament all the time to describe nations falling from power, such as Edom, Egypt... and the earth remained! It's metaphorical.

So Jesus is already here! His Kingdom is spiritual, and is present in believers all over the world sharing the Gospel. It is common to literalize spiritual truths; Jesus's disciples did it with the 2nd Coming of Elijah (not understanding it was John the Baptist coming in the SPIRIT and POWER of Elijah) and the Samaritan woman at the well thought the Living Water was a liquid she could fill her cistern with. :)

    Hi Saku,

I am really surprised by the quality of the replies you have received.

    But I like Red's comment

As regards 888's comment - hypothetical questions are not always irrelevant and can serve a purpose, at times.

Anne's comment - she should remember that Thomas was encouraged to place his hands in Jesus' wounds to prove to him that he was real and had a physical body no doubt.

Re 'Boats' comment he/she should remember that when Paul wrote 2 Timothy 3:16 "all scripture is inspried by God etc" there was no New Testament and that would not be the case for another 300 years later so obvioulsy Paul was referring to the Old Testament.

As to the comment "Journeyman Too" made about Christ never left I suggest he read John chapter 16 where Jesus says quite clearly if he does not go away the HS cannot come and that he is going to his father.

And as for "Coffee" she aught to look up what the word hypothetical means.

My comment - to your question - If Jesus had already returned then he had not kept his promises or his followers were incredibly misled for the Bible says that he will return in Glory and all will know, as one of your answerers has already said.

It is a rather nonsensical question because if he had the power to return he would hardly be limited by the constraints of an institution locking him away.

    regards MGD.

He has not returned yet. In the Bible it states that Jesus will return as he ascended - he will come down to earth with a bright white light. His feet will touch the Mount of Olives and cause it to break into two pieces - the pieces going so far away from each other that a valley will form in the middle of them.

Read Zechariah 14, it describes in detail how Jesus will return and the events that will happen just before and on that day.

When Jesus comes, we will definately know it.

Spiritually Christ never left. Physically he has yet to return.

Truth never left the world, it merely went unnoticed for centuries at a time as men followed after their own imaginations. Physically when truth returns in power, every eye will behold him.

Christ told Pilate he was truth, indicating he was the material / physical incarnation of truth. So it is truth you are being hypothetical about, and asking "what if 'he' were real"... Truth is reality. But man believes only in the real.

If there is no truth, how do you explain your being alive? Man's knowledge proves that fiction only survives as long as it is believed, once belief in it is shattered it exists no more. The power of Life is truth... the earth is still populated by living (if not mentally so) beings. Understanding of and belief in the teachings of truth has passed from generation to generation, so he never left in Spirit; Spiritually.

No, because they do not "lock away" crazy people unless they are a clear threat to themselves or others, and Jesus would not be a "clear" threat, in other words doing harm to anyone physically by his own hand.

Jesus is a spirit person. If you remember, he entered a room with locked doors. Mankind could never control him again.

    John 20:26-29

The power he has now is immense. He and his armies will bring an end to this world,..(not the earth)..Revelation 19:11-21

When Jesus returns to collect, his bride the church, his feet shall not touch the ground, we shall all be changed in an instant and meet him in the air.

So who ever you have locked up IS NOT him.

??spirit person?? where did they come up with that idea???hahaha

First; you have to agree that the Bible is the word of God; 2nd Timothy 3:16-17 " All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so the man of God is thoroughly equipped for every good work." Second; the scripture in Revelation 1:8 " I am the Alpha and the Omega says the lord God, Who is, who was and who is to come, the Almighty." this passage refers to the second coming of Jesus Christ.

I don't think he'd be locked up and labeled crazy. I think he would have an inner circle of people he would have sought out and I think he'd be keeping quiet while building up to his self revelation.
