Do you think blacks have REALLY "arrived," or are we merely accepting pale skinned "blacks"?
Has anyone else noticed that only blacks that sorta look like whites are "acceptable" to the mainstream? Also, why do we refer to President Obama as a black, when he is half white? I'm an old white guy, but I think race relations are pretty much nowhere, despite the constant reassurances (mainly from the Right) that racism is dead. I like Obama, but he does NOT nail down a black presidency, in my mind.

I've never believed the BS on racism being dead. PC is merely stifling it for the time being. European rule is every where, thus those with the most European features are more universally accepted. I'm a realist and this does not bother me. I don't wish to idealize, it wastes time.
Answer: As a black woman I believe it's merely homogeneous acceptance. Who ever most resembles the majority wins. It kind of reminds me of vampires, :P, in order to feed and prey amongst humans they take on the form of their prey, a beautiful pale skinned human. It gets them closer to what they want. Assimilation is the best way to survive. Of course they're many who are unconventional in deeds and looks that sneak past the fold but they're anomalies in my opinion.

I agree with you, and its really ignorant of society to accept someone on the color of there skin and not the content of there character.
Then again there are people within a culture who will not accept there own people because of skin color as well. There is a movie made in the late 80's or early 90's called School Daze by Spike Lee where lighter skin blacks disliked darker skin blacks.
So its not only within society its also lies within the culture, which is really unfortunate.

Light blacks didn't just show up with Obama. They've been with us since the plantation.
Yes, things have improved over the past 60 + years and seeing as you're "an old white guy" I would think you'd remember how things "were" and how things "are" today.
Did you fall asleep during the whole decade that ushered in Civil Rights?

Lighter skinned Blacks tend to be more accepted. Lighter Black people are not really regarded as "biracial", but as "light skinned" Blacks. Racism is declining, but I think color-ism is increasing.

Yep, Take Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Beyonce for example. Black people with european features are always presented as beautiful. If you have features that are more African they are considered ugly.
