If I am trying to upgrade my original PS3, will these components work?

I have the original PS3 - the 40 gb one, and it sucks because I don't have space for anything anymore!

I watched a vid about changing the HDD. It says I have to have a 2.5 inch (it has to be 2.5) SATA (it has to be SATA) 5400 RPM hard drive and the more RPMs, the more trouble I'd run into running and processing. Also, to backup my old files, I need an external HDD that is at least 70 gb, so I can successfully back up all my stuff, and it has to be formatted to FAT32, because that's what the PS3 is formatted to.

Will this hard drive work? Can the ps3 handle this amount of gigs?

And where can I find an External HDD formatted to FAT32, and a Philips screwdriver?

Please Please help. THANK YOU

You know you need a laptop hard drive and yet you still picked a desktop drive. Facepalm. PS3 only reads up to 500GB, and and just use a flash drive to back up saves.

No, the hard drive won't work. It is for a desktop, which is too big. You need a hard drive for a laptop or notebook. There aren't that many laptop hard drives that provide more than 1 TB of storage capacity. I'm not gonna get into the argument on whether or not the PS3 can actually read more than 500 GB from the internal hard drive. I'll just say that most PS3 owners have no need for more than 500 GB (even if they are heavy media users), so that is what I would look for.

As for the external hard drive, any external HDD will work. If you need a program to format it, you could use CompuApps Swissknife from www.download.com (its free) if it supports your OS. I don't know of any other free formatting programs.

As for the screwdriver, look for a mini screwdriver set in the Tools section of your local department store (Target or Wal-Mart). A Stanley mini screwdriver set shouldn't cost you more than $10 and one of them (I believe its the #1 Phillips head) is suitable for removing the screws.
