Are there really problems shipping from Malaysia to America?

I ordered an item off Etsy on January 2nd, and still have not received it. The seller gave me the tracking code and informed me that the tracking code is for USPS, so I'll be able to track once it reaches America, and until then sit tight, it may just be delayed. It shipped January 9th, and still not successful tracking. Why might this be? I am so fed up I am beginning to wonder if the seller shipped at all, even though they were pretty high rated.

Update:

Yeah, the payment went through fine, and I've been in touch with the seller, who offers a refund policy if the package doesn't arrive 30 days after shipping. I just don't understand what might have caused the delay, and was wondering if anyone knew any causes for that.

    I see 2 possibilities ;

    1. unreliable courier company (most likely)

    2. scam (unlikely)

    What you can do :

    1. further verify tracking details

    ask for the scan image of the shipment receipt. verify whether the tracking number is legit.

    2. Make some phone calls.

    USPS, call the courier company in Malaysia as well, verify shipment date and tracking number and ask why is it still not in system.

    3. Post additional details which courier company responsible in Malaysia

    as an online seller there is one or two courier company that is less reliable here in Malaysia that i have been avoid to use their services.

    good luck

    Normal shippng may take over 1 month. There should be two tracking codes... One is the code given to the seller when the item is handed over to the local shipper in Malaysia. Request [Demand ?] that the seller provide you with this number so that you can track the item up to the point when the shipper is changed to USPS. When the local shipper in Malaysia hands over the item to USPS [somewhere down the line, maybe in Hong Kong, or Amsterdam !], the airway bill containing the code the seller first gave you is used.....so that it is possible for you to track the item. Maybe the problem now is that the local shipper in Malaysia has yet to hand over the item to USPS.....

    Nothing that Im aware of. I ordered some product in Malaysia once in a while and it arrived on the promise date. Try to contact USPS to make sure they receive a shipment from that merchant and don't forget to give the tracking number they give you.
