Why do Athiests study religion just to tell someone they're wrong?

Many Atheists I know like to study mostly Christianity just to throw it into the face of a Christian. If you feel you are so intelligent then why not use those skills for something useful instead of trying to destroy someones faith? I know I'm gonna get alot of flak from you people saying that God is fake!, Snakes don't talk, we started all the wars, etc. but, I wouldn't mind a serious answer.

Update:

I should have been more specific when I said, "why not use those skills for something useful instead of trying to destroy someones faith?" I meant what if that faith was the only thing keeping them a good person out of fear of burning in Hell.

Until forty years or so ago there was no problem between Christians and atheists!

All the other religions and atheists live in peace and are only attacked by christians and self defense is legitimate!

It takes in reality only one to make a quarrel. It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. - William Ralph Inge.

Do you not recognise that Christians are provoking retaliation and repudiation for their terrible attitudes?!

Perhaps if Christians stopped their intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted postings things might change!

Perhaps if Christians stopped eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more things might change!

Perhaps if Christians stopped being the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more things might change!

Perhaps if Christians stopped demanding freedom of religion whilst they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them things might change!

If Christians rediscovered the god of love and forgiveness and put aside all those terrible human emotions things would definitely change!

Why are Christians so afraid of people who simply do not believe in any god?!!!! Surely it can only be because they are so afraid that atheist are right and they are wrong or it would not bother them!

Time for Christians to understand that it is not about god, jesus or belief but about the terrible Christians attitudes and behaviour!

As soon as they rediscover the loving god Christianity used to have and start acting like it the problem will cease!

Misery; much like an inflated sense of superiority; loves company. They're trying to convert you by convincing you that you're merely confused by your faith. Why; they actually know something of your faith; and make great effort to prove you're wrong. Atheism doesn't sell. It's not so much a belief; as it is a non-belief. It offers nothing. It only serves to inflate fragile egos. There are as many types of atheists as there are believers. Most are decent folks who don't believe there's a God. They tend not to advertise their non-belief; and would prefer to avoid the topic in mixed company. There are others; acting upon uncertainty and doubt; who are actually asking for someone to show them a God they can believe in. There are others yet who angrily denounce God; as if God were a villain better off ignored. My answer falls far more within the realm of human nature having nothing to do with whether or not God exists. Atheists having good manners; and respect for other beliefs; are no different than theists with the same point of view. There are obnoxious slobs on both sides of the spectrum. I believe in God, by the way.

YA R&S is a spiritually oriented forum. It is not scientifically oriented (there are other forums that are). People come to YA R&S because the majority of the people who are truly committed try not to judge, try to be as nice as they can, and try to truly answer a question. Atheists know this, and instead of going to a more scientifically oriented forum they derive some type of pleasure in coming to this forum for the sole purpose of making fun of the belief's of another individual. Most know little or nothing about the scientific concepts that they spout. If they did, they would attend those forums and engage in dialogue with the people who post questions there. It can be rough, however, and not for the feint of heart. Many on those forums attack ignorance with a speed and intensity that is unbelievable. You can't run with the big dogs and still pee like a puppy.

I'm not going to trash talk your beliefs, that is not why I am here. I pay attention to what the beliefs of many who are in a religion or into christianity, because unfortunately they also tend to be the ones who get in power.

I will through it in the face of a christian hypocrite in a heartbeat, for those who act self righteous.

I'll tell anyone that asks all religions are wrong, yours is the one most commonly discussed on here. You have extreme confirmation bias.

It's a tough job but the someone has to combat the silliness of the religionistas on here.Your faith is irrelevant. It's the distortion of reality that is most irksome.

You don't need to capitalize atheists unless it starts a sentence.Like theist,it's not a proper noun.

I won't give you any flack about your god.

You want a serious answer here it is : Keep you religion in your homes and churches where it belongs and you would NEVER see or hear from an Atheist. But you drag that lunacy out into public where you might infect my kids with the insane belief that a baby killer (egypt's first born) is worthy of love and worship and you are gonna have me getting in your face showing you the absolute stupidity of your religious beliefs...not for YOUR benefit but for the benefit of MY children. They see me putting you in your place and they will know that worshipping a baby killer is stupidity.

You don't see Atheists running around trying to force Atheism into public schools or trying to force Atheism into public buildings or parks do you? No you do not because Atheists are moral people who do not believe in force feeding their beliefs to the masses...but we will call out those people so immoral that they seek ways to deny parents the right to teach their kids as they see fit.

Seems to be the immoral, self righteous and arrogant people who are most responsible for trying to force feed a baby killing god onto the masses are Christians.

Keep your religion in your homes and churches where it belongs...simple. You did know that Christians and Atheists are EQUAL when in public right? How would you like it if you found me talking about Atheism to your kids in a public park? You wouldn't like it at all would you?

Thank your god that it made Atheists with far more decency than it made christians.

I'm not an atheist, but I think everyone should study religion. Not just one, but many. Even if they aren't looking to practice them. It's an important topic, at least from a sociological view point. And everyone should seek truth in their own way.

You are so very right, they devote an exuberant amount of time studying that which they do not believe in, Personally, I would use my energy for something that I thought was useful.

I think in most Atheists, there is a small spark of , not faith-lets say "hope". What they don't believe with their conscious mind, their spirit know better, They deny the Spirit that lives within them, perhaps damned in this life to live in a perpetual state of yearning for acknowledgment of ones self, ones inner spirit.

Maybe they HAVE to continuously convince THEMSELVES that their is no God, Arguing with us is in the stead of arguing with themselves, otherwise, why would it matter OR be interesting to them . It's all part of the denial.

These are my thoughts on the matter.

You've got the order backwards. I studied Christianity in depth when I was a Christian. That is why I am now an atheist.

Religion is an interesting subject to atheists. many people who have become atheists do not do so lightly so to discredit a religion you must first understand it.
