Russian Jehovah's Witnesses: how are you coping with the government sanctioned persecution?
I have heard things are bad for you because of governmental actions; The recent ruling from the European Court of Human Rights, that Russia is acting illegally, are being ignored by Russian authorities and Jehovah's Witnesses are being imprisoned because of their faith
Return of the wrath fist - the point is they are not breaking the law and the Court of Human Rights ruling has stressed this fact
Bara Bara - there have been arson incidents at Kingdom Halls (because of government actions - inciting discrimination), people arrested in the middle of the night, peoples homes and Kingdom Halls bugged
James - I never thought about that. If their houses are bugged, I suppose their computers may be too. But I know they are not allowing the bully boy tactics of the Russian government to intimidate them and are trying every avenue of law to defend their rights. They are not hiding their light under a bushel.
I am worried about Vot though - she hasn't been on yahoo for quite a few months. Last time she indicated the troubles were in a different part of Russia but I cant help but worry

Vot is OK, she graduated in July and left Russia in August. She is now happily serving Jehovah in the 'JW Paradise' called Zambia :-D
She is no longer privy to certain details as to what is happening over there, but is confident that no matter what happens, Jehovah will continue to take care of the brothers in Russia :-)

Jehovah keeps all faithful ones in his memory, like Job, the apostles, and just ordinary everyday persons who die faithful to him. I knew many who suffered in concentration camps when I was a young Christian in Germany. There is nothing wrong in asking Jehovah to "keep them in his memory," though. I think you've been given some very nice answers and plenty of information to read and study in that reguard. I'm happy this Q&A forum exists for just this very reason;and happy so many were here for you and your questions. And yes, ask your study conductor he can supply scriptures that will answer all your questions and guide you.

This reminds me of Hitler's regime in the 1930's. He began with the propaganda that had ordinary citizens turning against their neighbors who were Jews. When the government got more powerful and began committing crimes against the Jews like destroying their homes and businesses, no one objected because they were already programmed to resent that group of people.
People can be easily manipulated unless they stop and say "how would I feel if I were in his shoes?" Obviously the Russian authorities feel they are above their own written law and the law of human decency.

I live in Russia and I've never heard of such things in local news or newspapers.
Imprisoning people for their faith is not nice.

Maybe the Jehovah's Witnesses should stop breaking the law.
