Keep my laptop or get and iPad?

I have an HP laptop that I don't use all that much. Its two years old, has windows vista, and is pretty nice. I was thinking about selling it and getting an iPad for college next year. I've looked at the iPad and think it would fit me perfectly. I really only get online and email and listen to music, ect. But when college starts i'll need it for more writing document/research and stuff. The only reason I don't use my laptop as much is because I don't have wireless internet, and its kinda heavy for me to carry around (i'm small). I also think i'd like the reading ebooks on the iPad as well. So should I sell my laptop and get an iPad or keep my laptop and just get a nook/kindle? As of the moment i'm leaning towards iPad

An ipad is only as powerful as a cell phone and even uses cell phone software as it's OS. Even a galaxy is more powerful and even a netbook is more powerful. A netbook isn't really an option either, it should be viewed as an ACCESSORY to a real computer, not a replacement for one. But it WOULD be a good idea to get a netbook and a more powerful real computer to synch to each other. That's what my kids have. They each have netbooks for IN class, notebooks for real work they do and they each have XPS desktops for gaming.

An I pad is NOT sufficient to use for college unless youre in barber college. You're going to need a real computer. If you want a mac, youre going to need a macbook or a mackbook pro, NOT an ipad.

A 2 year old hp SHOULD have wifi built in. you probably just blew out your wifi driver. Reinstall it. If not, you can out a card in the communications bay or buy a usb "dongle" for like 20 bucks.

We haven't tried a kindle or a nook yet. the first generation kinda sucked but the new ones look pretty nice. Remember there is free ebook reading software that can be put on a laptop.

I also agree with sashin, you can't run ALOT of stuff on an ipad, sometimes for techical reasons but more so because they are a monopoly. THAT is the reason it can't run flash, it is CAPABLE, but apple and adobe dont get along.

    Good luck in school

Go for the iPad. I'm not normally an Apple guy, in fact I hate Jobs and how he and his stupid company try to "revolutionize" computing with Photos, Movies and iTunes! Do stuff that your other computer can already do, Ohhh amazing! Anyways, besides the point, they are pretty handy for students. You will most likely have to pay for 3g service, but the iPad can also use connect to the college's network. You may have to get used to typing on the screen when taking notes, but I'm sure it'll come.

Long answer short, go for the iPad.

64GB iPad with WiFi+3G costs 799€ which is about 1100$. WiFi only costs 100€ less. With 700€ I can get an ultraportable/regular laptop/2 netbooks. Don't go with iPad, go with laptop/netbook.

Try this:HP Pavilion dm1z (with AMD Fusion) link below
