Why can't I open an attachment (only Word documents) without saving it?
I used to be able to open all attachments just fine. Now, if I click on a Word document that has been emailed to me, or one online, and the "Do you want to open this file?" box comes up, clicking "open" does nothing. I have to save it to open it. How can I fix this?

I don't know exactly why or under what conditions, but this is actually a good thing. There are hundreds of Questions here asking why, after working for hours on a Word document right out of an email and carefully Saving it several times, there is no output file.
This is because a document opened right out of an email gets a temporary file that disappears when it's closed. By forcing a save on an attachment BEFORE permitting it to be edited, the problem is avoided.
I hope this was the reason and that the cure works.
Hope that helps.
