How can we ignore the evidence re: marrige in heaven at Matthew 22: 29- 30?

I am astounded at the amount of thumbs down for responders who say there is no marriage in heaven YET the above Scripture indicates that this is true

In reply Jesus said to them: “YOU are mistaken, because YOU know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God; 30 for in the resurrection neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.

Update:

SD - sorry knee jerk reaction. This question was prompted by the response to another question on marriage in heaven. People were getting thumbs down for being scripturally accurate. One responder only cited scripture and was thumbed down.

The question is asking for an explanation as to why ( I assume Christians) are not accepting the words of Christ on this matter - please see scriptural evidence ( as all Christians are supposed to refer to their Bibles when deliberating their beliefs!)

Update 2:

Acid zebra - I am not turning it into anything. The scripture clearly is referring to the resurrection and Jesus goes on to say there is no marriage in heaven

Update 3:

Proteus - ah, I have re read my comment...yes, it could have been clearer :)

I will try again - some are thumbing down responders who say there is NO MARRIAGE in heaven even when scriptures were provided to demonstrate the truth of their words OR Responders rightfully indicate the resurrected do not have ties of marriage in heaven but some don't agree with this (despite the scripture being clear on the matter) Whew! Is that little clearer? :)

    You are right MythBuster.

The reason you received so many thumbs down, probably even from Christians, is that so many have

no real knowledge of the Bible.

Also, some of "us," (I am a Christian) want to pick and choose what we will believe or follow.

    @SD:

The question was "how can we ignore the evidence", now you don't have to accept the evidence.

How would it be heaven to see your ex wife with her new husband walking around in heaven.. that would be hell for most people so it's not even logical... you are quite right - there is no marriage in heaven. I think Mormons believe in eternal marriage but it is not what the bible says.

Inspite of the scripture you quoted, many people beleive there is marriage and/or relationships in Heaven. Many people believe they will be reunited with their spouse in Heaven or have a relationship with someone in Heaven although they did not have a relationship with anyone in this life.

You are totally screwing up the interpretation. In the resurrection of the dead they will not marry just like the angels in heaven do not marry.

I wish I could negatively star this question.

It depends which crowd you're talking to. I for one agree with what Jesus says.

The bible also says encourages the murder of children. Psalm 137:9-9.

Just because it was written doesn't make it a fact. The only way that Adam & Eve could have populated the world was through incest, as there was no one else to mate with.

    "neither do men marry"

"nor are women given in marriage"

And you turn this into "there is marriage in heaven" how exactly?

Source(s): Not a Christian, but this seems like a straightforward sentence.

That's a rather strange use of the word evidence.
