Boiler breaking down often, how dangerous is it?

Our boiler is an old boiler, not a combi one, it is frequently going off and we have had such a rough winter with it as we are left with no heating or hot water many times. The pilot light also has gone off so many times thro' the year, just fed up with it all as i have been very ill this winter. I need some peace!

Complaints to landlord has brought no joy as he is happy only to replace small parts from time to time, but refuses to replace with a new one.

I think it is old and had its time.

Is it dangerous? Are we in danger of CO poisoning? What can i do to redress this issue?

it is a HIDEAWAY GLOWWORM.

Update:

It is also costing me hell of lot each month -almost 100 quid per month fr a purpose built 2 bed flat in a block. But no comfort in this awful winter! Suffering the last 2 years with this problem.

Update 2:

I open the large french windows and other windows daily for fresh air even on the coldest days fro some time at least.

The landlord sends his own workmen to inspect annually and i get a copy of report, but though it was pointed out thth the boiler has had its time, he is not willing to replace it. Last 2 yrs i had to call out several times due to breakdown, small parts are changed but not the boiler itself. Very frustrating. Generally he is very unwilling to do repairs or any work.

stumble on a interior of reach tenants rights corporation that would propose you. you will possibly even call a housing lawyer on your city. often times you will get an extremely cool person who can element you interior the right course on the telephone for unfastened. i do no longer understand what a housing affiliation is, yet you will possibly desire to communicate with your landlord or the valuables administration enterprise with whom you have a hire. it is not proper if it fairly is the fault of the builders, they nonetheless have a accountability to make optimistic that tenants have a working warmth source. Have them purchase you an area heater or 2 (no longer the type with pink coils that falls over and burns the area down) till it fairly is fastened.

Your gas installation and appliances should be checked and inspected every 12 months as part of the landlords safety check.A legal requirement for all rented properties. You should be given a copy every year as the tenant. If this does not happen ,refuse to pay your rent until it does.

Call inhealth and safety people, or evironmental health people at you local council, to assess the boiler, if it is defective the will ban it's use immediately and order the landlord to have it renewed in a set period of time. In the meantime landlord would be forced to provide alternative heating. Tell your landlord that you are about to do this.

Why put up with it? Just give notice and move.

Plenty of rental flats available. Find a nice one with modern equipment recently renovated.

yes , only if you don't have proper ventilation. clean the pilot assembly and adjust the pilot flame at the thermocouple. should help to keep it burning. good luck
