17 year old student faces death penalty over exam answer. Why are atheists angry?

A boy faces the death penalty, and you think it is fair game and even amusing to say that he deserves it?...how very sad you must be, to hate someone so much just because they happen to have been born into this culture and religion.

I hope that there will be many people (religious or not) who will speak out about this terrible ruling.

Atheists are merely people who don't believe in any religion whatsoever. I don't see the reason you generalize a group of people like that. If you'd like to have a religion, knock yourself out. I'm an agnostic atheist, meaning I ask for proof of these things. While some of the comments underneath this thread further help your case that all atheists are selfish bastards, not all of us are that way. It is mainly because of the context we view them in, due to the government and mass media depicting all atheists are stubborn dumbasses that won't accept what many perceive to be the "truth" .

Religion is a bunch of horseshit that has corrupted most of mankind, instilled a policy of ignorance on most societies, and has only brought horrible affects on non-believers throughout history. The whole system should be destroyed, or else we may never progress into the future that so many people have hoped for.

Its a religion of peace.

They kill anyone disturbing peace.

Death Penalty is common for peace in the country.

Children are innocent. They have to touch and understand.

I think children should be pardoned.

As I have said repeatedly how can these people possibly compete in a world where everything is criticized and nothing is sacred. In the West students in Philosophy have been writing papers criticizing religion for centuries and none of them died for it. Fredrick Nietzsche wrote a whole book on the subject and lived to tell about it.

Do you think atheists are the only ones outraged?

What about Muslims who do not agree? Are you going to place them under the same blanket as the ones who are doing this?

Why isn't there an "atheist" plan to break all these wrongly accused people out of jail?

Because atheists don't do these campaigns. Catholics, Jews, and moderate Islam do it.

Show me evidence that atheists are helping people in these situations.

Because that "beauty", as you call it, is wasting an innocent life that simply dared to challenge the accepted wisdom. We get angry about terrorists bombing the World Trade Center supposedly in the name of Islam, we condemn the Inquisition for murdering people against Christianity, we condemn the Holocaust for murdering millions of innocent people, and yet you say it's "beautiful" to kill someone for an unpopular answer on a test paper?

And incidentally, "Olga", I wouldn't call a country that kills people for test answers "free".

There is no beauty in the killing of a student for blasphemy. It is not religious conviction, it is murder, no wonder the Islamic people are hated by many others for using their religion to justify such barbaric behaviour.
