My name's Gretchen...and it's miserable, hahaha. But close friends of mine call me Gerty/Gertie. There's always Gretta, but that's a bit outdated now--still could be pretty though. Ettie's cute. Haven't heard that one before, but I kind of like it. Gretel, but that's not so attractive.
Gretch is hideous and sounds like "grouch". Honestly, I just go by Gretchen. It's prettier than any nickname and transitions into adulthood without having to make a conscious change.

My sister's name is Gretchen, and my dad and my cousin call her Gretch sometimes... my mom HATES it though, because it reminds her of the character "Retchin' Gretchen" from the Old Maid card game. haha
It's not really a name that has any good nicknames, I always just call my sister Gretchen. :)
Sorry I couldn't be more of a help!

How about Maggie or Madge? Gretchen is just a German pet form of the name Margaret, after all.
Or she could call herself Pearl, since that's what Margaret means.
