how long dose active charcoal work for?

the kind for smells if it is brand new but like 6 months or year old dose it still work when i take it out or dose it die at a point

    Depends on how it's been stored. It doesn't die, it just has adsorbed stuff like it is supposed to. You can re-activate the charcoal by baking it at about 105 degrees C, 221 degrees F. You'll have to take it out of whatever it's in, and spread it out. Probably not worth the effort.
