HELP!!! If you're selling car don't you have to tell buyers if there is something wrong with it?

I bought this car from a guy and he told me there was nothing wrong with it. Now I find out that it has a blown head gasket and there's coolant in the oil. The seller refused to take it back. Is there anything else I can do or am I stuck with a lemon?

First thing is it is NOT a "lemon". It is a USED CAR. It was your responsibility to have it inspected before you bought it. Those here that say take it back are clueless. It is your car, problems and all. Unless you have something in writing stating it's condition there is nothing to be done.

There is no law against selling someone a defective vehicle. It is the buyer's responsibility to inspect any vehicle carefully before buying it, especially in a private party sale. Why? Because private car sales are "as is", and you have no recourse against the seller.

It sounds like you're stuck with a lemon. That's why buying used cars from people is so scary sometimes...you never know what they might NOT be telling you, ya know? I bought my current car from a person, and I brought several people out at different times to check it out before we committed to it.

When a lady bought my dad's truck several years ago, she actually paid a mechanic to inspect it before she bought it, which I think might be one of the smartest things to do.

But once you sign that sale contract, you're pretty much stuck. The guy who sold it was probably anxious to get it off his hands, so I doubt you could get any restitution from him.

It's your car and yours to fix. Why did you take his word for it? This is ALL your fault.

    Enjoy your "new" car.

you need to have a mechanic check out a car before buying if you don't know how

all he has to say is he didn't know it had anything wrong if you take to court.

    stuck with it

if you haven't changed to your name, take back and leave it.
