You should try the cost of living calculator at PayScale.com. You can enter in where you currently live and where you would like to move to, and it will compare the cost of housing, groceries, health care, utilities, and more. You can also enter your salary and occupation and the calculator will tell you how much you will need to make at your new location to maintain the same standard of living. Here is the link to the cost of living calculator: http://www.payscale.com/cost-of-living-calculator.
I'm not sure where you are currently living, but I entered Charleston, SC and compared it to the national averages. Housing is about 8% cheaper than the national average, utilities are 6% cheaper, and health care is 6% higher. Averaging everything, Charleston is around 1% cheaper than the national average. http://www.payscale.com/cost-of-living-calculator/...
Hope that helps.
