replace wood stove with fireplace?
I'm moving into a house built in 1954. It has an existing wood-burning stove in the living room that is ugly as sin. It is vented above the unit with a stove pipe. Does anyone know of a ready-made unit which could replace item or will I have to go through the whole contractor thing?

i love the wood stove more than the fire place, do you know why?
1.you can close it and the embers doesnt go out like in the fire place.
2.you can cook at it and make tee, Coffee ..every thing ...and in this case you economize.
3.its wormer than the fire place 100 times ..and especially when its in the living room (marvelous) and if its open it will worm up the house.

the only thing you can replace it with is a better looking woodstove...check out soapstone woodstoves...fireplaces are heat wasters...
