Adding gravel and substrate to a fish tank?
Is it okay if I do that? I won't take any of the old gravel out I'll just put both the substrate and the new gravel on top of it. My reason for this is I want to add nicer plants that do need a substrate in my aquarium, my lighting is enough for medium light plants so yeah. So advice for this would be nice.
My tank is already established with fish.

Yes, gravel is "substrate".
Anything designed to put at the bottom of an aquarium is considered as such.
It is okay to mix different substrates together. In nature it is common to have "layers".
In my aquarium I mixed gravels and sand. Three different types. These substrates have settled with time into layers. Some plants run deep to the bottom where the sand has settled and others have rooted near the top layer where the coarser rock has settled. I did this for 2 reasons. 1, I couldn't deside what was "better" for plants. And 2, florite substrate is expencive and I needed 200+ lbs. So I used 4-5 bags of colored gravel 5 or so bags of gravel florite and a few bags of sand florite.
I think you will do just fine.

Gravel AND substrate?
Gravel is a substrate.
Anyhow, you can add substrate to the existing gravel, but for a planted tank, you would be better off with the special plant substrate under the other gravel, instead of on top of it. Just scoop the old gravel out into bucket, add the new stuff, and put the old gravel on top of the new stuff.
