St croix fishing poles!!?
I am planning on getting a nice spinning rod and have it down to 2 st croix models. The 6'6 med action triumph for 70$. and the st croix prmier for 110$. I just want a long lasting quality pole. The good thing about the premier is its made in america and the triumph is made in china i think. I`d like to support american products but am wondering if its worth the extra 40 bucks. anyone own one of these poles and have an opinon? Thanks..

I own several St. Croix Premier rods.I have them in the "S" and "C" models. I use them for light tackle saltwater fishing for Halibut and Stripped Bass. I like the feel and sensitivity on the rods. Actions and light weight are terrific. I have rods that cost twice and even three times the price, but I always come back to these rods. Some of the rods are over 14 years old and are still going strong.

The St. Croix premier and triumph pale in comparison to the old reliable Ben Doerr St. Croix fishing rods. Like the Penn Z series reels, St. Croix did away with its best product Ben Doerr fishing rod for whatever reason.

I like the premiers better. It is worth the extra $40. But both are quality rods and have 5 year warranties on them. So if it breaks, send it in and they will send you a new one for like $50. Or if it breaks and you want to upgrade to say a legend. They will send you the new rod minus the amount of the old rod.

spend the extra for the premier.
l have one mojo bass rod and a heavy musky/swimbait custom rod built on a st croix blank. these are my only sts croix. but they do compare favorably with any of my other rods.

ALL St. Croix poles are top of the line, but more than likely, the $110 will last longer and perform better. If you are an avid fisherman, I would suggest spending a little extra dough and getting one that you know you can rely on. Let us know how it turns out!

The blanks themselves are the same. The Premier has better guides and a higher grade of cork. In my opinion buy the Premier I have a 6' med that I bought 15 yrs ago and it has never let me down.

i have never used one. i picked a few up and looked at them ONE time. it seemed to me the craftsmanship was less than good. globs of epoxy where they didnt belong, loose reel seats, even a few eyes that werent in line with the others. maybe the batch i was looking at was made by someone on their first day, or maybe a friday before a holiday, but it was enough to turn me off to the brand all together. havent even picked one up since.
all that being said, a 5 year warranty is a 5 year warranty. sometimes its worth it to pay for the peace of mind. knowing you wont have to pay for another one for 5 years.
