Tankmates For My Tiger Barbs?
I have 12 Tiger Barbs, 6 are Albino in a 40 gallon tank. I was wondering what good tankmates would be good for these fish?
I would like another shoaling fish and then some loaches, a catfish like a striped dora and or a pleco like a bristlenose.
Any ideas and numbers would be great.

Hi
As you may be aware Tiger Barbs have a reputation as being fin nippers and bullies in the community aquarium. However the consensus seems to be that they are only really aggressive if you keep less than 5 of them. If keep in large shoal they tend not to bother other fish.
However, I would still advise you not to get any slow moving or long finned fish, such as Siamese fighting fish.
I think a pleco would be a good choice. I kept Pleco's for years with more aggressive fish such as Oscars for example and they also managed to look after themselves. I would worry that you tank may not be big enough a long run for a Pleco, mine grow to 13 inches and produced a lot waste.
As for loaches, they are fast moving fish and would not have a problem getting out of Barbs way if they did start getting aggressive. Clown loaches are always a popular choice, although maybe a bit too much black and orange for your tank. Clown loaches will also eat you snails if you have any you want to get rid of.
I hope that helps
Good luck

You don't have room for that much additional stock in your aquarium size.
Along with your 12 Tiger Barbs you could have:
1 Bristlenose Pleco
7 Kuhli Loaches
Or
5-7 Larger Barbs/Tetras
Or
1 Striped Raphael Catfish
Something along those lines.
Good luck.

try a clown loach, cory cat, u could go with a pleco, however u need to make sure that they have a lot of algea cause that is all they eat (unless u by tablets like algea rounds). there are green tiger barbs also. it all just depends on what u like. u just dont want anything too small simply because the tiger barbs are classified as semi-aggressive. so i wouldnt go with the cherry barbs or neon tetras or things of that sort. u could try kribensis' (they are dwarf cichlids, but they are only semi aggressive) and they are cool. like i said it just depends on what u like.
