What is the purpose of Valentine's Day?

Other than to fill the coffers of the candy companies and the florists, at the expense of men, for the benefit of women? Let's not forget the Vermont Teddy Bear Company and PajamaGrams, which, for the past few years have been targeting men and bombarding them with their commercial advertisements, with the goal of prying money out of their wallets. When is the last time anyone saw/heard such commercial advertising targeting women and urging them to buy this or that for "him"? Should Valentine's Day be renamed "Women's Day", seeing how this so called "holiday" is so blatently women centered? Men who have the nerve to mention this will likely be labeled as misogynistic jerks by the feminists. So much for "equality and fairness".

It is way too girl centered -.- I would rather have something creative from his heart, like a random "I love you" sticky note, any day than him feeling like he has to buy me some expensive jewelry.

I always get my hubby something...it's just a day to take the time out to say I love you and I'm lucky to be with you. I know people say that you should be able to do that any day and Valentine's day is pointless but how many people go out of their way to do something romantic for their bf/gf on any other day. Some people need the day as a reminder to take time to show your SO how much you love them.

I guess it can at least give a chance for the couples in love to celebrate a day meaningfully together. A day to look forward to and a day to cherish their love.
