What military customs (Army/Navy) are applicable to the Chicago Police Department?

Things like taking off your cover indoors (unless under arms), saluting, etc.

I'm asking because I watched the premiere of "Chicago Code" yesterday and I'm wondering about a few things, if they're authentic?

    T.V. is all made up nonsense.

    We don't do any of that. Once you graduate from the academy they could generally care less as long as you show up sober and handle your jobs.

    Not sure about Chicago but most forces are considered para-military and adhere to many of the same traditions and customs.
