Citation question for writing a paper?

If I read a paper, and that person uses a quote, or a data sheet/table, or any specific fact that he found through research and I wanted to use the same information, would I have to cite both the original source of information and the paper that I discovered it in, or just the original source of information?

    Just cite the original source.

besides, how could anyone prove that you got it from the secondary source?

Do whatever you feel like. Your teacher probably doesn't give a rat's *** and won't read it anyway.
