suffered from this myself....and just though i might add that if its really itchy and while the doctors are doing tests and stuff you can make a little soothing remedy to apply at night and in the morning . you just add 4 to 5 drops of Lavender oil to aromatherapy base oil and put 2 to 4 drops onto your bum, and voila itchiness gone!
you might also be able to buy it ready made?? look in aromatherapy type stores.

Hey everyone who is answered is right! this is nothing to worry about, you need to see your doctor and i'm guessing you are young so you might need to tell your parents ( so they can take you!)
this is not an STI, picking up worms can come from pets, or people or toilets! I work in a lab and I know they are not cute to look at but if it is sore you will need an antibiotic. Trust me your doctor as heard insane stories so they will not and never will judge!
there is nothing wrong with you, you have got an infection just like you would a cold it needs to be treated the right way and while it might be embarrassing to tell the doctor remember they have seen and heard it all before!
I've had worms before and it was from my pets, some small pills and it was all better! and if you are old enough or have money you can go to the doctor by yourself.
This is not an STI so don't worry about your parents worms can be picked up anywhere!! It can be embarrasing but it is a common prob! talk to a nurse or a doctor and you will be fine really soon xx

Don’t worry! This is a really common problem. In fact it’s estimated that four out of 10 children will suffer from worms at some point.
The most common sort of worm is called the threadworm. They look like small pieces of white cotton, and are tiny - between 2mm-13mm long. They’re hard to see with the naked eye. They live in your gut and the female worms emerge at night to lay eggs around the anus area. At the same time they secrete (release) a sticky, itchy mucus which might make your bottom feel itchy. The problem is you might scratch yourself to relieve the itch, and eggs can get onto fingers or stuck under nails. The eggs can be transferred from hands to mouth, which causes re-infection.
Having worms isn’t harmful, but it can mean disturbed sleep at night if you are feeling itchy.
The worm test!
It would be a really good idea to find out for sure if you do have threadworms. Ask your mum or dad to take you to see your doctor. Your GP might suggest a ‘sticky tape test’. This involves applying a wide piece of hypo-allergenic tape, or ordinary sticky tape, to the skin around the anus either last thing at night or first thing in the morning before washing. Your GP will then send the tape off the lab where eggs can be identified under the microscope.
Treatment
If you do have worms, your doctor will probably suggest a course of medicine to clear the worms in your gut, as well as some hygiene measures to stop them being passed on to the rest of your family. These will probably include having a good wash around your bottom area each morning and washing your hands and nails thoroughly; washing your hands regularly throughout the day, keeping your nails short and having your own towel and flannel that you don’t share with anyone else.
It might be worth your mum or dad having a word with your teacher too. While you won’t need to stay off school, the chances are that you picked up the infection from someone else in your class in the first place.

You can buy tablets from some of the bigger supermarkets. You don't say how old you are, make sure you read the instructions and stick to the dosage recommended. You could also go on to the NHS Direct web site for advice and suggested medication. I do think you should tell your mum so she can help you (that's what mums do)
