Everytime I try to download the MS office 2010 free download, it says that my product key is invalid.
Actually 1st it tells me with a green check mark that it is valid then it turns into a red x and says invalid.. any ideas why or how I can fix this?

If you're trying to use the product key on the bottom of your laptop or the back of your desktop or tower, don't. That one is only for the Windows operating system. It won't work for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, ...). Unless you paid extra for Microsoft Office, you have a free trial copy that expires after 25 uses (of all Office programs combined) or 60 days.
But until then, you don’t need a product key. You can use the trial copy by just clicking the Continue button in the registration window without entering anything in the product key boxes.
But be warned: When the trial period expires -- with little or no warning -- you'll be able to read and print your documents, but not much more. When that happens, you'll have to buy a license (product key) for Microsoft Office to continue using it.
Here are some of your options for legally paying less than full price for Microsoft Office 2010:
First, if you're a student, you may qualify for the Office 2010 Professional Academic edition at a pretty good price ($79.95):

Second, if you’re interested in buying just Word, check out this URL, especially the second group of listings.

Also, if you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2010 file format (.docx), here’s a possibility for salvaging them. Microsoft offers a free Compatibility pack that allows earlier versions of Word (and Microsoft Works) to read and write Word 2010 files. If you have access to an earlier version, this can at least give you back your documents. Some new features of Word 2010 will be lost or converted to straight text in the conversion to the earlier version.
Good luck.

You may have used up your free trial period already. It used to be that for MS Office, if you just have the software for 60 days on the computer, or open it 25 times total, that constituted the end of the free trail period, and you then had to buy the software and get the normal "Product Key" on your package, or buy it online from Microsoft. The "Product Key" that you are possibly attempting to enter for MS Office, could be the Microsoft Windows Product Key for the operating system that's installed on your computer. There are some alternatives if you don't want to spend lots of money. There is the now "old" OpenOffice.org that works with Microsoft Office created files, and from the same company, a newer version of Open Office called "LibreOffice" also at .org. It works with MS office files and can be altered any way you wish. These are both free. Hope this info helped! Good luck!

We must face the fact that MS Office is a little expensive and if you use a trial version, it will bring a few problems such as the "Product Key". I can recommend a free Office suite software to you and it is like MS Office. That is WPS Office. This software has updated to WPS Office 2014 Beta 3. Here is the download link: http://www.wps.com/download/2714 I have been using WPS Office for a year and it works quite well. You can have a try.
