Las Vegas--Stratosphere or Excalibur for Families?
I'm trying to decide between hotels for a family vacation. Please give honest opinions and be specific about the good and the bad, whether it's about the staff, pool, parking, rooms, location, etc. Thanks!

I brought ny family to Excalibur 14 months ago, at Christmas time. We were greeted with strippers, male and female, dressed as Santa's slutty elves, asking if we wanted to have our picture taken with them on a sleigh. A woman was also dancing on an elevated stage in a bikini. They have a restaurant called Dick's where you can buy I Love Dick T-Shirts. I am not a prude, but there was nothing family friendly about the place. Add in the dirty rooms and Excalibur may be the worst hotel on the Strip.
I have also stayed at Stratosphere recently. It is more family friendly than Excalibur, and the rides on the top are very exciting, although many of them are too much for anyone under 13 or so.
It has been a while since I have visited Circus Circus. It is fairly run down but the Adventuredome is great for younger kids.
Another alternative could be one of the Station or Coast Casinos. Most have a place where you can leave kids 3-12 . They are called Kids Tyme or something like that, and they cost about $6 an hour per kid. Most also have bowling, movies, arcade, and swimming pools. They also have cheaper food that is just as good as any of the Strip properties that have been mentioned. The South Point, which used to be a Coast Hotel, is the best of this bunch, with great food, movie theater, bowling, Kids Tyme, and 4 star rooms.

Between the two, it's Excalibur. No question. Stratosphere is isolated north of the strip and can be a scary place to walk to or from at night. Excalibur is in a good location within easy walking distance of six other hotel-casinos on the south part of the strip.
The Ex also has a small midway and an arcade to keep the little ones amused, and a McDonald's.

Of those, I'd choose Excalibur.
Stratosphere is in a bad location, clear at one end of the strip. You can't really walk to any other hotels or attractions from there, and the neighborhood isn't great at night. The hotel itself is nice enough though.
Excalibur is a bit more run-down than Stratosphere, but it's in a much better location. There are more family-friendly attractions in and around Excalibur and you can easily walk to many places from there.
Avoid Circus Circus. It's located in the area of Stratosphere, and it's a dump. Kids might enjoy the Adventuredome, but you don't have to stay there to visit it.

Excalibur is in the better location. From there you can visit other fun properties easily including New York, New York (which has a Roller Coaster),Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. Between the two you mentioned, I would opt for Excalibur. At one time it was very family friendly – with an arcade on the bottom level. NY, NY has an arcade too.

Excalibur is better for families, if that can be said at a vegas casino. It is on the strip so it is easier to get to the main attractions than the Strat which is about 1-2miles off the main drag. It right next to MGM & New York New York.
I looked quick and found a 30% off deal http://bit.ly/hFsf9P
STAY AWAY from Circus Circus!

Stratosphere is not in a great area, not a place for kids to wander and no kid stuff except those rides on top. Excalibur is better choice. Easy walk to movie theatre by MGM, freee lion habitat at MGM, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, rollercoaster at NYNY and arcade, but there is little for kids to do after 6. They can go to most shows, enjoy the buffets, all cafes but not all restaurants. Cannot watch, no into, casino, bars, clubs; that is state law and consistent with all casino hotels.

You'd probably be better off with a local haunt, Station or Coast casinos, then traveling to the strip even with a rental you'd probably spend less. If you are set on the two options though you'd probably want the excaliber the strat isn't in a great area and has very few kid attractions, unless they are old enough for the rides, though that is true of most casinos really.

You probably don't want to hear this, but Vegas is NOT the place for a family vacation. It is a Disneyland for adults. You won't be able to take the kids into any casinos and the shows are also designed for adults. Take the kids to Disneyland and skip Vegas as a family vacation.
