Wondering what people's thoughts are about Jerry Sloan's resignation?

I hate that williams made someone mad enough to retire if i were sloan i woulda just traded him or at least tried to but thats just me, i say sloan is done more than likely and i say d will goes elsewhere come resign time

I can't believe that Sloan's best player, Deron Williams, was the cause of the resignation of such a legendary coach.

I honestly think this is the end for Sloan. He's coached so long in Utah, it's gonna be so different if he coaches another team.

As for Williams in fre agency,I don't know if he'll choose to stay or leave. He has been Utah's most consistent player this year and has kept the team together after the leaving of so many key players from last year's Jazz roster, yet he was the cause of Sloan's resignation. Only time will tell what his decision will be.

This is definitely it for Sloan. I can't see coaching anywhere else, especially at his age.

Publicly the stance Kevin O'Connor and Greg Miller took was that Jerry Sloan was not forced out but rather resigned on his own accord because "it was time". Let's think about that one for a minute:

So a guy who has been known as one of the all-time greatest competitors in the history of the NBA just all of a sudden decides he wants to quit in the middle of the season? A guy who had the loyalty and the determination to stay with the Jazz after Malone and Stockton retired (as opposed to jumping ship and going to the team with the best players at the time like Phil Jackson) decides to walk out on his team with less than 30 games left in the season and the team battling for a playoff spot? Karl Malone said it best the other day, "the Jerry Sloan I know would never quit anything"

So by some odd coincidence, Jerry Sloan decides that wants to retire immediately following the Bulls game, in which he and Williams had an extremely heated argument at halftime, because "it's time"??

Wait it gets better. So on the exact same day that Sloan decides "it's time", his top assistant Phil Johnson also decides "it was his time"? It's obvious that Johnson walked out to prove that he still supported Sloan even though management didn't anymore. If Sloan was just walking out because it was time, it wouldn't have made sense for Johnson to follow suit.

I doubt Sloan was ever going to win that championship with the Jazz (elite free agents like a LeBron James are never going to consider going to a cold small-market team), but it's truly a shame to see Sloan go out like this. I can guarantee you that if longtime owner Larry Miller hadn't passed away two years ago, this never would have happened.

The Jazz will come to regret this decision both short-term and long-term. I think the Jazz will collapse the rest of the season and miss the playoffs altogether. I know Williams and Sloan hated each other, but I still think Williams will almost certainly opt out of his contract after next year and go elsewhere (if he's not traded beforehand).

Jerry wasn't the problem, he was the solution. Some idiots may claim that Jerry's not a good coach because he never won a championship. Here's my response to that: Take away Jerry Sloan, and the Jazz are a typical small-market team like the Timberwolves or Kings that's hardly ever a contender. Instead, the Jazz had 1 losing season in 23 years despite having to completely rebuild their team after Stockton and Malone retired.

Jerry sloan is and always will be a great coach but one of the coaches unfortunate to not win a nba title and as a die hard laker fan feel bad for him for that because he's done his best at coaching the jazz and was very deserving to win an nba championship but at times just wasn't meant to be and that's how life is sometimes.

I'm very surprised by that. He's one of the smartest bench tactician today. He just resigned and not retired, so it means that he's still open to coaching other teams. I'm very sure a lot of teams will offer him a head coaching job.

I think Deron Williams stint with the Jazz would depend on the performance of the Jazz before his contract expired. My guess would be he would explore and play with another team.

Great Coach, honestly it's going to be weird seeing someone else on that bench coaching the Jazz after seeing Jerry year after year. I say he takes time off for a bit and then decide. I think Deron will probably stay.

This is the end of coaching for Jerry. He is tired of having to defend and teach his system to a bunch of Punk kids that where in diapers when he started winning with it. At 68 he doesn't have the energy needed to keep rich punk, know-it-alls in line.

If D-Will would have listened to Jerry and ran his system he would have been one of the best point guards in NBA history. Now he will be a very good player that has 3 turn overs the last three possessions of a winnable game. ie, the game last night against the Bulls.

It's really sad. I always respected D Will and regarded him as the best PG in the NBA, but after I hear he constantly argues with Sloan and blames teammates etc, I've lost a bit of respect, and Sloan's retirement is really sad.

It's sad. I don't think DeRon Williams will be there forever so it's a shame it went down the way it did

Sloan is done coaching...it is hard to see him go but I think he just got tired and quit.

The Jazz are probably going to be struggling to win games the next few seasons and possibly longer.
