  • Why is Gregg Popovich refusing to bench Tim Duncan this series?

Duncan has had a great career and is a class act so it's a shame to see him going out like this. However, he's completely washed up now and is clearly the worst player on the court for either team. Duncan has become a huge liability and the Spurs are basically playing 4 on 5 when he's on the court. Duncan's last 4 games combined: 9 PTS, 16 REB, 3-18 FG

So why is Popovich refusing to bench Duncan and play Boban Marjanovich? Is it just as simple as showing loyalty to Duncan (who was really the guy who made Pop's career) more important to Pop that winning the series?

  • Is it possible to get a judge to marry people at a restaurant?

Hello, I'm having a small civil wedding celebration at a restaurant next month. Is it possible to get a judge to come to the restaurant to marry us there? So far all of the judges I've called said they will only marry us at the courtroom. Does anyone know any judges who will come to other places to marry people? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is Rick Carlisle the 2nd best coach in the NBA?

I'm not a Mavericks fan, but I think a good argument could be made that Carlisle is the 2nd best coach in the NBA behind Popovich. Do you agree?

    1. I never thought I'd say this, but the Mavs gave the Spurs their hardest series this year. No one thought the Mavs would win more than 1 game in the series, but they took the Spurs 7 games (and 3 of the losses were by six points or less). Carlisle did this with a well-past-his-prime Dirk and a group of terrible defensive players.

    2. When the Mavs won the title in 2011, no one thought the Mavs had a chance in the Finals against the Heat, who had 3 of the 4 best players in the series and had a far more athletic team. Carlisle outcoached Spoelstra like crazy, and the Mavs pulled off the upset in 6 games.

    3. In the 2011 playoffs, no one thought the Mavs had a chance against the two-time defending champion Lakers and the Mavs not only pulled off the upset but swept them. The only Phil Jackson's ever gotten swept also.

    4. In 2001 in Detroit, Carlisle took over a team that won 32 games the year before and led them to back-to-back 50 win seasons and the Eastern Conference Finals.

    5. In 2003, his first year in Indiana, Carlisle led the Pacers to 61 wins (a 13 game improvement over the year before) and the Eastern Conference Finals

    6. In 2004, with his 3 best players suspended (Artest the entire season, Jermaine O'Neal 25 games, Stephen Jackson 30 games) Carlisle still led the Pacers to 44 wins and won a playoff series.

  • How come Mark Jackson got fired but Scott Brooks keeps his job?

How does Mark Jackson get fired for losing to the Clippers (a more talented team on paper) in 7 hard-fought games, and yet Scott Brooks, who has had 5 years with an immensely talented team and done next to nothing with it, keep his job year after year?

OKC just announced that Brooks would return for another season, despite yet another playoff disappointment. Over the last five years, Brooks has had the 2nd best player in the NBA (Durant), a top 5 point guard (Westbrook), the best shot blocker (Ibaka), and until the past 2 years the best sixth man (Harden). What does Brooks have to show for this? 1 measly Finals appearance (where he was embarrassingly outcoached) and 0 championships.

Meanwhile I simply don't understand what Jackson did to get fired. All he did was take over a team that has historically been awful, and with pretty much the same core players they had before, win 47+ games two years in a row and win a playoff series last year. And it's not like they weren't competitive in the playoff series against the Clippers this year. In fact, they were probably more competitive in the series than I would have expected them to be on paper, especially without their top interior defender in Bogut to guard Griffin.

  • Cheap smartphone plans?

    Hello,

I'm looking to buy a smartphone because I would like to be able to browse the Internet from my phone. I probably would only use around 100 minutes of talking, 50 text messages, and 10 hours of browsing a month from my phone. Does anyone have any suggestions for what phone, provider, and plan you would recommend for this relatively little usage?

    Thank you,

    Kevin

It honestly amazes me that Brooks hasn't gotten more criticism and that he's lasted this long. It must be the result of coaching a small market team. I can't see any way he'd have lasted this long in a large market.

Anyways it just boggles my mind that Mark Jackson would get fired for losing to the Clippers (a more talented team on paper) in 7 hard-fought games, and yet Scott Brooks, who has had 5 years with an immensely talented team and done next to nothing with it, keeps his job year after year.

  • Thunder's plus minus with both Ibaka and Perkins on the floor this series?

Does anyone know where I can find a stat for the Thunder's plus minus with both Ibaka and Perkins on the floor so far in the NBA Finals? (I know it's easy to find individual plus minus, but that's not what I'm interested in. I'm interested in when both of them are on the floor together.) The big lineup at the beginning of the game is absolutely killing the Thunder. Brooks really needs to make a starting lineup change.

  • Good phone for easy texting and browsing?

I'm looking to buy a new phone that has easy texting (with a QWERTY keyboard, not a telephone keypad like I have now) and with web browsing capability (the graphics don't have to be great, just not terrible). Other than that, I don't really have any specifics needs, so I don't need the newest, most expensive phone. Do you have any suggestions for less expensive possible phones that would meet my needs?

  • Free Drawing Softwares?

    Hello,

I'm an engineer, and I often need to make simple drawing for papers I write. I have been using MS Paint to make these drawings in the past. However Paint forces the user to manually draw objects by hand, which makes it difficult to draw objects exactly to scale.

What would be helpful for me was if there was some software that allowed the user to numerically specify the dimensions and the position. For instance when drawing a rectangle, the software could prompt for the (x,y) position of the lower left corner of the rectangle and the lengths of the rectangle in the x and y directions. Does anyone have any recommendations for free drawing software that could satisfy my needs?

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • Biggest Fantasy Football Busts of the Decade?

Who would you say is the biggest fantasy busts of the decade?

This is excluding players whose lack of production was due to being injured (ala Tom Brady in 2008) because that's not really the fault of the player or the owner who drafted that player.

Matt Forte this year would get my vote considering he was a HIGH first round draft and finished with only 828 yards rushing and 4 TDs despite playing every game. Owners spent a 3rd or 4th overall pick for a player who essentially wasn't even worthy of starting except in very favorable matchups. (Subtract Forte's stats from the DET, CLE, and STL games and see how pitiful they are.) I had Forte in one of my fantasy leagues and I benched him for the playoffs despite the league having 3 starting running backs and my third best running back Kevin Smith getting injured right before the playoffs. It's a pretty good indication of a bust when they aren't startable in the playoffs despite being healthy.

The closest bust to Forte that I can think of was Shaun Alexander in 2007. Alexander finished with 716 yards and 4 TDs, but his lack of production was partly because he did miss 4 games with injuries and I seem to recall Alexander in 2007 was more of a mid first round pick rather than a high first round pick like Forte. Thus I would give the edge to Forte this year.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some good busts though, especially earlier in the decade.
