Las Vegas--Excalibur vs. The Orleans?
Which is better for families (stuff for kids to do)? Knowing that Las Vegas is an adult playground, which of these 2 hotels offers better stuff for kids to do? Vegas will just be our base while we take several day trips and visit family from there in June.
Also, how terrible is the traffic on the strip by the Excalibur.
Would love some responses from people who recently visited Vegas with kids.
Thanks!!

Has to be the Orleans, the Excalibur is showing it's age now and is at a busy intersection across from the MGM Grand. The Orleans is NOT several miles west of the Excalibur as stated by another answerer - it is more like 2 miles so it's not that far out. They have a free shuttle service to the center of the strip as well. For kids there's plenty to do as other replies have mentioned also the rooms are large and clean. And another consideration - the daily room charge is only $5 per day unlike other rip off room charges at other hotels (often 2 or 3 times more).
By all means go and visit the Excalibur for an hour or two and enjoy what's on offer there. One thing I must say in it's favor though - the Tournament of Kings dinner show is fantastic, fun for kids of all ages!
Don't miss it.

By all means, stay at the Orleans. The Excalibur might be on the Vegas strip but you won't want to stay there more than one night. The hotel shows it's age. Another issue with the Excalibur is that they charge you an additional $14 a day in resort fee and that can add up quickly.
If you will have a car while in Vegas, stay at Orleans. There are lots of cool things for kids to do there. Orleans has a 70 lane Bowling Center, Century Orleans Theatre Complex with 18 screens ,
Orleans swimming Pool, Time Out Arcade and Kid's Tyme Child Care Center

The Orleans definitely has more stuff for kids. There is a big arcade, a movie theater, a bowling alley, and a fun place where you can leave the kids while you gamble or eat in the resort. There is a free shuttle from The Orleans to the strip as well.
Exalibur is one of the better places on the strip for families. There is an arcade area there as well, and a great dinner show (Tournament of the Kings, which you can enjoy even if you aren't a guest). It's within easy walking distance of many places on the strip, and there are other kid-friendly attractions nearby (coaster and arcade at NYNY, free lion exhibit at MGM, GameWorks and a movie theater near MGM, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay).
As for traffic, the intersection near Excalibur is one of the busier ones on the strip, but it's more an issue on the other side of the street, with many people turning on and off the strip by MGM.

Orleans is BETTER! They have the 70 lane bowling alley, 18 screen movie theater and a game room area up in in the bowling alley area. They also have a shuttle that does from the orleans to the strip free of charge, i usually tip the bus driver a buc k or two but it beats the taxi's anyday. It runs until 12:30am and it drops you off at Bill's Casino on the strip so you dont really need to use your car much. Orleans have a nice pool, me and my little ones felt safe there with no problems.. The rooms are CLEAN and comfy. Go with the orleans!

Neither have a playground and both have pools. But Orleans has a movie theatre and bowling lanes. Excalibur is on Strip, Orleans several miles west of Excalibur.
Excalibur allow you to take the free tram to Mandalay Bay for Shark Reef, across street to NYNY for Manhattan rollercoaster, across the street to free/small Lion Habitat at MGM. Also at Luxor, connected by tram, is Bodies the Experience (real bodies) and Titanic Exhibit. Across the street you walk short distance to Monte Carlo and free monorail to Bellagio and the Conservatory and fountains, etc. Then over to Caesars and the two free anatronic shows in Forum Shops.
You can visit any of those regardless which room you pick. Children cannot wander through any hotel alone. But Excalibur on Strip gives you freer access to more events.

The Orleans is great for playing poker.
Don't worry about traffic.
Don't stay in Excaliber unless you get the "Widescreen" remodeled room. Otherwise youll be disapointed.
Its great that your doing day trips with your kids and stuff, but I would highly encourage you to come back later this summer w/o the kids and stay in a place like the Palazzo or Aria and truly get THE adult experience of Vegas and youll have much more fun.

Excalibur if you have kids, traffic sucks at night but since your on the strip you can walk. taxis/locals take back streets.
the orleans is off strip pointless if you have kids

Excalibur; it's amazinggg~ and I love it, also if you want another one Circus Circus is good too (: it has an indoor theme park that is pretty fun~
I've been to the Excalibur and there are definitely things for kids to do in it :D Plus the show that they have there with the knights is amazing~ <3
I think if you want things for kids to do Vegas is not the best place, but as a kid in Vegas, the Excalibur FAR MORE than the Orleans :)
