Looking at a 1978 Jeep Cj7?
I am looking at a Jeep cj7 and have a few questions I would like to ask but don't want the seller to take advantage of me. This jeep has a hard top. Does it come off, and if so is it difficult to get off? It has 108000 miles and is in fair to good condition and mechanically sound. Is it worth $2500? It will be a daily driver so off roading is not in the picture. Is this something I can haul my kids around in safely?
I have a car that I use most of the time. The jeep would only be driven for pleasure and on heavy snow days here in Kansas. (My car sucks in snow)

The hard top does come off but it may be difficult for a beginner, you may want someone to help you. 100k miles isn't much on a jeep. One problem I'd look out for is rust. If everything is good then 2,500 is a great deal. There not that safe though, but are very reliable vehicles.

That 4.0 inline six you have won't die. Those things are bulletproof. I would start by maximizing your horsepower with all the little mods like a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and exhaust. Then lift it up and put some mud tires on it. You'll appreciate those extra horses when your rig has to spin those large tires. Then it's really nothing but choices from there. Jeep mods are easy to come by and usually just as easy to install.

I wouldn't do it. Yes, the top can come off. It takes a little work. Sure, you can haul your kids in it, but it is a cramped vehicle. It's worth $2500 if all you want to do is off road, but get yourself an Accord.
