Christians, have you any successful stories involving turning the other cheek?

A successful story may involve an enemy becoming a friend after you choosing not to retaliate against them for their unkindness, for an example. Please feel free to share successes or failures, or both.

Atheists, agnostics, pagans, and theists of other religions can also feel free to answer.

Thanks in advance!

A friend/enemy (He is my friend but enemy at the same time because he is against my religion) went on a rant with lots of curse words at me about how he hated my God because he thought it was "f-ed up" that my God has taken the lives of many, allows people to kill each others, etc. This was at a military summer camp and he did this when I told him I was considering being a chaplain (pastor for the military). At the end of his rant all I said was "okay."

In another instance my pastor was going to a hospital to service to a person in the hospital (he was wearing pastoral garments) and right when he walked in a lady who was upset yelled "f*ck you and your God!" She obviously just lost a loved one and my pastor obviously did not retaliate.

The study concerning "turning the other cheek" has been misinterpreted far too long.

The passage noted in Matthew 25:29

"But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well."

The above verse is telling us to leave room for your adversary to change, do not be immediately harsh against the lack of belief they have.

Furthermore, we are to also bend and flex a little to gain a trust with the individual as noted in many "diplomatic" situations.

However, when a large error does occur and one cannot see any sign of change even after allowing a good deal of effort to teach our adversary we are to respond properly.

The above would conclude by simply walking away as noted in Mark 6:11 or to further pursue our adversary when the severe ignorance to the Lord is out of pure evil.

We can clearly note the latter in Matthew 21:12

    God bless'

    Normally, Christians aren't peaceful.

Think they turned their cheeks during the Dark Ages?

It is hard to do, and often involves more persecution. But when I was tempted by my Uncle's girlfriend and she called me names for refusing to have a relationship with her, I told her I forgave her, then she admitted to stealing money from his business, left, and became a nun. We are all friends now, and she is helping young women in trouble.

Actually, I don't have any enemies. =) I can't share a sibling fight because I never turn the other cheek when it comes to those. Even so, my siblings aren't my enemies. =)

I was in an angry, hate-filled, vulgar, rude, arrogant debate with an atheist on here once (and all that negative stuff was coming from one side....guess which side) and after the atheist calmed down...I told it that I wasn't going to be talked down to and ignored them

Sometimes the best thing to do is ignore them.

I tend to ignore my enemies and don't want them to be my friend. Book of Sirach teaches us to leave others alone. Not to mingle with sinners.
