Has anyone else ever done a cervical examination on themselves while pregnant? Personal exp?
Hi, I'm 36 weeks along today, and have done an internal cervical examination on myself and noticed my cervix is not only very soft (think wet marshmallow) and round enough in the middle to fit a grape. Also, at the top/front I can feel the baby's head thru the vaginal wall. 2 days ago I had trouble even locating my cervix but today it seemed lower (3 inches as opposed to 4 the first time). I was just wondering if any other women out there have been checking and interested to know ur findings or even if u managed to use ur findings as a guage to labour being close, and what those changes were? Please, any info appreciated, I've Asked for info on subject 3 times now, with no help so far!

Just because you can do something doesnt mean you should! You run the risk of stirring up contractions, breaking your waters and causing an infection. I am not saying you are unclean but even with sterile gloves on the more examinations you have the greater risk you have of infection. with my first pregnancy istayed at 3cm for 2 and a half weeks so its not really predictive either

you should not really be checking your cervix. My doctor wouldn't even check mine because he didn't want to start labor earlier than I should have gone. You can accidentally put bacteria up in your vagina and it can cause problems with labor - you could even end up getting a c-section. besides that, you are not a doctor and can't self diagnose anything, so there's no point. Keep it safe and don't do that again.

:) I wanted to chime in and say, yes, I did this too! My first son (second baby) was low for a very long time, once I was feeling in there, and found his eye socket (oops!).
As long as you wash your hands and are gentle, no harm should come. Trim your nails...but in my experience, the doctors were much rougher than me, and I never had a single issue with either pregnancy. That said, sadly, them being low like that didn't seem to be an indicator of labor. Even being dilated....nope. It sure is fun though!
Do be careful not to pop your water bag. That could be dangerous. :)
Much love.
