Why do Christians not accept anything that isn't in the bible?
It is not my intent to belittle or bash on Christianity, but it has been my experience that one can never successfully debate religion, or spirituality with certain religious folks. I've found that if it's not in the bible certain people will believe it's not possible. Why is this so? I understand that it's part of their religion, but then why discuss religion if you're not going to consider other possibilities? And isn't it possible for the men who wrote the bible to have made mistakes, or to have left things out?

Wellll I don't base my beleifs of a bible. I believe in God and the point of the Bible, but whose to say God didn't create the Big Bang? I believe life in itself proves there's much more then just science. And so I do believe in God but I also believe other things are possible. I don't think anyone has it completely right, I don't have a solid religion. I just believe in being good, and that there's a greater power out there, which I call a God :)

The Hebrew Bible or The Old Testement has many books other than the five books of Moses written by non-prophet peoples. The New testement has 4 Gospels written by 4 different peoples and I read in wikipedia that there were more than 100 Gospels. So I think people must consider other possibilities in order to avoid being wrong and because relegion is Logic!!!!!!!! The Muslims claim that the Quran is What God revealed to Muhammed through Gabriel in arabic. But even the most arabian people can't write a quran like that of Muhammed's,so I think the quran is the most definite!! God made it this way as an answer to the Jews who wrote half of the Old Testement and the disciples of Jesus who wrote the Gospels!!!!! There is no Gospel titled the Gospel of Jesus!!!

Some will say it is because of the warning in Revelations not to add to (the book of Revelations). There is also a warning about someone preaching a different gospel( whatever that is)
There are so many conflicting interpretations that all a Christan can do is believe that God leads us by the Holy Spirit. If people pay attention they will notice that Jesus addressed the barbarianism that atheists seem to enjoy bringing up by saying that Moses made concessions to the people and the hardness of their hearts.Yes, Moses, who talked to God face to face made concessions to the people instead of God because of the hardness of their hearts. This means that Moses did not always follow God but made allowances for the people.
Jesus pointed out a number of things and at one point said I have more to tell you but you cannot bear it now. Well, this comment may have meant anything.
I believe men who wrote the Bible made mistakes. I believe they left things out. Jesus said the Paraclete would come and lead men into all truth. He never said it will be in a book called the Bible which is a collection of writings by different authors talking about their experiences with God.
I am with you on this. Christians do dismiss other religious experiences even when Moses said to have no other gods ( notice the plural) before Yahweh. This implies there are other gods but never place them before the God of Abraham. Many pastors have done the church a disservice by simply presenting the cross and Jesus crucified and leaving other questions unanswered.

The Old Testament, the Hebrew version has but 3 mistakes made in all of time.
I have been reading the Hebrew/English Bible and have found that all other versions have left out half, yes half, of the Original Old Testament text. It is no wonder there are so many misinterpreted verses being thrown about as fact when indeed it is false.
Let's take jesus. He is not ever mentioned in the Old Testament. The Messiah's name will be Emmanuel, not jesus. jesus has not fulfilled even one Old Testament Bible Prophecy. Not One.
Now the new testament was written thousands of years after the Old Testament. In it people are taught that jesus is born of a virgin, but Old Testament prophecy states Emmanuel will be born of 2 human parents. From the line of King David and Solomon. That when He is born there will be peace.

I consider myself a Neo-Pagan Christian. I do believe in some of the things in the Bible, some I do not. If it is proven wrong I dismiss it, if it cannot be proven at all, I may believe it. I believe in New Age thought as well as some of the lessons that are found in the bible. In fact, I take a little from each religion because I believe they all come from the same source.
My God is just too big for one religion!

The Bible is the foundation of Christian faith. The bible says that we should study the scriptures so that God knows we are serious about our faith. Though some things may seem logical to non-Christians, we do not believe that their evidence can explain or disprove God. Our minds are not sophisticated enough to comprehend everything about God. Therefore, God gives us the bible to guild us in the right direction. The bible explicitly states not to add or take away from the scriptures. Therefore, we are not to attempt to change anything that is in the bible to suit our own purposes or make other people happy. You really don't have a religion if you can add or take away doctrine whenever is it's convenient.

come on over and discuss with me what you say is NOT in the Bible ?
For us who believe in God and Know His Word, also Know not everything is what man claims it is.....we see the failure and faults of men and we know most of mans fallacies and assumptions and claims they can not prove with real truth. Many claims and say they have proof cause of a bone or rock or idea or a bias document or report, BUT still can not provide the facts or truth of the matter.....
many claims bible contradictions or mistakes, but can not clearly produce any...its all in the way they decided to read it and accept it instead of what was Truly stated and written .
SO with that said..Its been my opinion that goes Both ways...unless someone has a bias web page or a claimed scientists report of something, they can not have a conversation about anything outside their lab or worse their own mindset .

Christians believe the bible is God's word to the world
that means a couple of things right off the bat-
-it's true (we believe God so we believe what He says to us)
-it's trustworthy (we believe God has protected the integrity of His words to us)
-it's the last word (we believe God knows best- so anything that contradicts His word
is not the best and so not for anyone who wants the best)
-it's His word to us- not the men who physically wrote it down (if you trust the author-
you can trust the book)
they are not our ideas-
we simply believe what God has told us in His word
(which we trust to be true)
and confirmed for us in our hearts
(which we know to be true)
belief and faith first-
then wisdom and knowledge-
not the other way around:)

I agree. God is in ALL things, or they would not be. To restrict yourself to the bible in your search for God is like locking yourself in a dungeon to then look for the sun, you know it's there because you've seen it before, but you've lost all sense of what it really means to you. Christians are not the only ones who close themselves in this way.
