What does "couture" really mean?

I see this word everywhere in shopping mall stores and online. What does it really mean when they refer to clothes as "couture"?

I think Couture is vintage. Something that everyone isn't wearing. Something of true value. In the fashion world couture is 1 of a kind items.

"French, from Old French cousture sewing, from Vulgar Latin *consutura, from Latin consutus, past participle of consuere to sew together, from com- + suere to sew".

When used in clothing stores, it just is a fancy way of saying fashion. In French, haute couture means "high fashion" referring to the big fashion houses and their ridiculously awkward clothes.

1: the business of designing, making, and selling fashionable custom-made women's clothing

There's a brand - Juicy Couture - maybe they're referring to that particular brand? I've seen them pop up in malls recently suddenly.
