Book or e-Book reader?

I've been debating whether to get an e-Book reader for some time and these are the conclusions I have arrived at when comparing the Nook and Kindle:

I like the text of the Kindle but the colour of the Nook, but I'd like it to be a device that looks similar to a book that you open up and have a left and right screen in portrait format. say about 8 inches in height by about 4½ inches wide for each side. It could fold together to close just like a read hardback book.

I would like a device that supports all formats and I can choose to buy from whatever bookstore I please and not been locked into to any single vendor or be tied to a proprietary format. And the most important thing of all that I'm looking for is the ability to search, copy, paste and quote from my e-books just like I can do with an Adobe Pdf file on a computer. Unfortunately I don't think the Kindles bookmarking/notes facility would cut the mustard on that score.

I do like the idea of the Kindle in that it is easy on the eyes and good for reading. However not all books are black and white text. Many also contain photos etc. For this reason I tend to lean more towards the Nook even if it means more eyestrain.

The unfortunate thing for me though is that it is difficult to buy a Nook where I live here in Great Britain as there are no Barnes and Noble bookstores. In addition even if there were I believe that the range of e-books they offer is smaller, and their prices are greater than those of Amazon. So where does that leave me now? It leaves me completely unconvinced by either Nook or Kindle. I've not been kindled and I'm not getting any nookie unfortunately. Wait and see what happens and develops is my conclusion for now and in the meantime I'll keep using trees.

What are you using? Are you still on paper or have you migrated to an e-Book reader? If so which did you go for? Kindle? Nook? Or something else and why? Which do you think is best?

Sorry, I'm a person who thinks that reading should always be on paper, with a cover, etc. Otherwise I feel like it takes away some of the magic of reading, if you know what I mean. Except for maybe iBook because I like Apple products.

I chose the Kindle. Having an eReader with a screen on both sides sounds wasteful, expensive and bothersome.

I have not found any eBook available elsewhere that was not also available on Amazon, and usually for the same price or even cheaper. Don't worry about Amazon being the sole source for your Kindle. Amazon isn't going anywhere.

You can also search and annotate on the Kindle. I've searched for specific text many times.

99% of the books I read are black and white text. Perfect for the Kindle. 1 book I've bought has pictures, and they display just fine, in black and white, on the Kindle. And if I really want to see a book with pictures in color, I'll just buy that particular book as a real book.

If you ask me, if you read mostly novels, a Nook Color will still display the text in black and white, for almost twice the price and a tiny fraction of the battery life. And the LCD screen is not nearly as friendly to the eye as the Kindle's e-Ink display.

I personally would say get a good phone or I pad (or similar), I started reading e books a few years ago on a pocket PC i had for work, when that finally died I bought a new phone ensuring it was compatable for an e reader program.

The advantages are that you don't have to carry two gadgets around with you and dedicated e readers only read books where as for around the same price you can get a good phone, pad or PDA that not only reads books but also has other functions and uses too.

Plus if you cant find the book you want in the right format you can install different readers or converters.

however i would say that you have to look around a bit, my very non technical friend was given a galaxy pad for Christmas and is having great fun will all the books she has installed but I (not great but a bit more technically minded) tried to install books and programs onto my mums ipod touch and eventually gave up because of the problems synchronizing with a different computer etc.

In short, I won't choose iPad or Nook Color, because they're using backlight screen like computer screen, and is difficult to our eyes. Just not suitable for reading purpose. For other ebook readers including the B&N Nook, Sony Reader, and Amazon Kindle, I'll go for the Kindle. For the Sony Reader, many books (especially new releases) cannot be easily find on it. For the Nook, it is good but it is slower and less user friendly compared to the new version of Kindle.

There is also quite a good comparison between the ebook readers here:

I have a Nook, and it suits my needs just fine. My husband has a Kindle, a Nook, and a Pandigital Novel. The Novel accesses both his Nook and Kindle accounts so he really doesn't need either of them now; he can just carry the Novel. I don't believe there is any reader that uses two screens for left/right pages the way you describe. Likewise, the search functions are limited; you can make some notes on a Kindle, but I don't believe any of them can copy/paste. For that, you need to have your document on a computer with Adobe and a word processor.

I want a eBook reader but I can't afford it since I am a student. But I prefer mobile device as it more convenient for a reading lover, it can be imported a lot of books without heavy load. The Nook support to original PDF now, the reading on it also comfortable/

Pirated e-book which I read on my computer, because I'm a goddamn miser, I lack a Paypal account, I prefer reading in English, and many books aren't available here in the armpit of the world which is Romania.

Although I have to say that reading actual books is a far more enjoyable experience.

I do a lot of travelling and would not be without my Kindle. I have over100 books on it (many free from amazon),can you imagine having to carry 100 books in your luggage????

So my vote goes to the Kindle every time and enviromentally friendly too.

How many trees have been saved by e-book readers ???????

I love answering kindle questions, it's by far one of my favorite devices that i keep in my bag.

For starters and most importantly I own the Kindle 2 (soon to be upgrading to the Kindle DX), and it is easy for me to say I love it! I think I've read over 20 books so far.

There are other reviews on the Kindle 2 here:

    And for the Kindle DX:

I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things, say when I'm on the step machine or doing some housework...

I like reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books... Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired.

I linked your directly to the Kindle Store on amazon.com! I really do hope you consider getting your own =)
