Nicknames and middle names?

Do you choose names even though you know you will only ever use the nickname? Like choosing the name Isobella but you know you will only call her bella (unless she is in trouble).

Also, we tend to not use our middle names, so how important do you think it is to have a great middle name?

Just a few different questions up for debate.

Update:

I didn't think of the legal aspect, good point.

Update 2:

I agree with having a name that can be both proffessional and playful, which is why I love full names with nicknames. I am Samantha at work, Sammy to loved ones, and Sam to my freinds.

Update 3:

Massie Jane - I love that you use your childrens middle names all the time, I wish I used ours more often :)

I like to chose names that have a multitude of choices for the child.

For example, my favorite girl's name is Eliana. Now it would be her preference what she prefers to be called. I plan to call her Eliana, now if she chooses to be called Eli, Ana, or whatever, I'll leave that up to her. That's why I like to chose names with options, plus in the future when they're adults they will be able to be taken serious should they go into Politics or the Medical profession.

The middle name in my opinion really isn't very important other then completing the name like an accessory completing an outfit. We all know as well as anyone that middle names when legal documents, mail and other sources are concerned it's the initial that we are identified by.

Example: Ryan Edward Smith would be Ryan E. Smith

When deciding on a middle name for my personal sake, I chose names that have meaning to me, a significance with my family or a friend.

haha I didnt choose my daughter Bella's name but her full name is Isabella and we only call her Bella. Even when shes in trouble, its Bella Markham, not Isabella Massie Markham.

And I use my childrens middle names almost everyday. Its part of their nicknames or just a playful way to talk to them. "So Miss Cyra Paige, how is your day going?" or "Effie Aurora, whats that silly face for?" or "Creed Nathaniel, whats your daddy up to now?" or sometimes just in normal conversation, "Briella Grace, would you say the blessing please?" or "Sara Anne, please go pick up the baby toys in the bathroom." And I use my middle name in all of my buisness papers.

This was interesting and fun to do(:

  • Well I think that middle names are more of a legal stand point. How many John smith are out there. I like my daughter middle name for me it makes her stand out more. idk how to explain it. I called my daughter Cheyanne, the nickname that I have for her is Cheyannakus.
