Dry Hair - How best to get condition back?

I have very thick hair, which goes frizzy the moment I touch it, or the wind gets it. I live in a very hard water area and my hair has been terrible since I arrived. What is the best way to get my condition back?

Hey sister, my hair is just like that too!

That type of hair can sometimes be very hard to handle, 'cause it's so thick and living it's own life, no matter how you've styled it.. But I also have good news, because when it's taken good care of, it's the healthiest hair anyone can have! Thin hair shows a lot of damage after coloring etc, but thick hair is a lot stronger.

First you have to find yourself a good shampoo and conditioner. It doesn't matter if it's super expensive or super cheap, the main tings is to just find the perfect products for your hair.

You should to try products that are going to moisturize your hair, because that is what you're hair needs rght now: lot of moisturizing. But try to avoid products that have lot of silicone or other stuff in them, 'cause that isn't a big help in long term. All of the silicone is just going to stuck in your hair, and since you have thick hair, it's going to be even more frizzy and sort of flat, which doesn't look good.

After a good shampoo and a conditioner, I'd recommend to buy a moisturizing hair mask, the kind of you leave in here for at least 10 minutes. Those are very good, but always remember to rinse properly!

Besides all the products you're gonna use on wet hair for cleaning and conditioning, don't forget that once your hair dries, you need to do something then too, which is hairstyling. That part takes your hair to the shape you'd want it to be.

Frizzy hair looks a lot better when it's styled, with curler or straightener etc.

If you'd like your hair very shiny and straight, then you should definetely straighten it.

But try to find the perfect straightening temperature for your hair, not too low nor too high.

And always - I really mean it - always, use a hairstyling product which is developed exactly for your styling tools. For example products that are meant to be used with straightener, have ingredients in them that help to keep your hair smooth, straight and also protect it from the heat, which is very important in case of any damage.

You can try mayonaisse as a 1 hour treatment with a bag over your head. Heat it with the blowdryer and rinse out. This works due to the cholesterol in it. After that rub olive oil in your hands and smooth onto hair. Or go to Sally's Beauty Supply and purchase an Ion conditioning pack for 2 dollars and silicone smoother for 6.
