How does one deal with working from home and selling that house?

Specifically, I operate two part time businesses out of my house. That means I work there, just like anybody drives to an office every day. The computer room is where I do science editing on contract and to a deadline. It wouldn't matter who was coming to see the house; if I had a job and an impending deadline, I'm grounded there till I'm done. Another room is more creative and contains a lot of what others might see as being nicknacks. They aren't. They are every bit pieces of equipment as test tubes, bunson burners and pipets are to a science lab. You wouldn't tell a scientist to hide his tools or remove his experiment, and those odds and ends represent that to me. So how would I handle those two active businesses while trying to show the house?

It typically only takes a potential buyer about 15 minutes to see a house, can't you plan for a 15 minute break when there is a scheduled showing? As long as the house is in good organizational order, clean, smells good, etc it doesn't matter much what the contents of the house are, and a little warning to the prospective buyer (or their agent) can be helpful to overlook your business activities. Or I wonder if it is possible that you could briefly store any "clutter" in a closet during the showing. While you may feel that your independence is being compromised by potential buyers entering into your workplace, it all comes down to how much you want to sell your property.

how about getting some screening that would screen off these parts of the room?

I personally think that people will look at the whole picture and if the house is where they want to be at a price they want to pay then they see past your bits and pieces! Too much de cluttering these days, people live in their homes and that is how it should be presented. As long as it is clean and smells nice then don't worry.
